About the event
No Forgiveness! No Forgetting! – The Murder of Patrick Thürmer and Other Punks in Germany Since 1990
On October 2, 1999, 17-year-old Patrick Thürmer was murdered. He was on his way home from a punk concert in Hohenstein-Ernstthal, Saxony, when three neo-Nazis attacked him and beat him brutally, causing him to succumb to his numerous injuries in the hospital just a few hours later. Patrick is one of at least ten punks who have been murdered by neo-Nazis in Germany since 1990 because they did not fit into their exclusionary and discriminatory worldview.
The lecture provides an overview of these ten right-wing murder cases. It then examines the circumstances of Patrick Thürmer's murder and the resulting consequences, such as how anti-fascist structures, the police, and the public dealt with this crime. Finally, using the commemoration of Patrick Thürmer as a basis, various possibilities are presented on how a dignified remembrance of the victims of right-wing violence can be organized and implemented.
