Best Gay-Friendly Hotels in Mykonos

Last verified: October 2026. Mykonos is the most famous gay island in Europe and, in 2026, the one with the fewest gay hotels. The Elysium, the hillside hotel whose sunset drag show every guide still describes, closed around 2022 and is now the Anandes, a five-star with no rainbow in sight; the men-only Geranium flickers between "temporarily closed" on Google and bookable on the OTAs; and the only property that calls itself LGBTQ is the Axel Beach Mykonos, opened in May 2025 in the old Akkadian building on the ring road. What survives is better than the hotel list suggests: four gay bars on the Old Port waterfront and in the lanes, Jackie O' Beach at the east end of Super Paradise, and Elia, now unambiguously the gay beach, with its nude end and the cove beyond it. Where to sleep, in real minutes

The gay bars of Mykonos Town sit in two spots 400 metres apart: the Old Port waterfront by the Paraportiani church, where Cosma and Jackie O' Town stand side by side, and the lanes behind it, where Porta and Lola are. Minutes below are from the waterfront pair on foot. Note that the "walk" line on the hotel cards on this site is measured to the centre of all gay venues on the island, beaches included, which puts the centroid in the middle of the island and makes the town figures look longer than they are; the nearest-venue line on each card is the one to trust.

• Old Port and the lanes (Leto 2 min, Harmony 3, Fresh 3, 23 Hotel 5, Mykonos Town Suites 5, Andromeda 5, Theoxenia 6, MyCocoon 8, Kyma 8): flat, car-free, and loud until the bars close at 04:00–05:00. Cruise days put 15,000 people in these lanes between 10:00 and 16:00.
• The hills above town: Rohari, School of Fine Arts, Dexamenes (Semeli, Elena, Belvedere, Anandes 8 min; Rochari, Alkyon 10; Hermes, Vencia, Geranium, Adonis 12): the hotel belt with the pools and the views, a ten-minute walk down and a sweaty one back up; unlit stretches, so take the taxi for €10 after midnight if you have had a few.
• The ring road and Vrisi (Axel 15–20 min, Livin' Mykonos, Boheme): the newer hotels outside the town on a road without pavements; the hotels will tell you it is a 10-minute walk, guests say 20–30 in the dark. Budget taxis or rent wheels.
• Tagoo and Agios Stefanos (Cavo Tagoo 15 min, Kouros 15, Princess by bus): the cliff north of the harbour; sunset views, a walk along the road into town.
• Elia (Imperial, Avaton, Utopia, Elia Mykonos Resort, Arte & Mare, Panoptis): the gay beach, 11 km east. The Old Port bus runs a handful of times a day (three in the autumn timetable, roughly every two hours in summer, €2.50, last one back about 17:00–18:00); the water-taxi pass gets you there from Platis Gialos until 16:05 and back until 17:45; after that it is a €35–55 taxi, if you can find one.
• Ornos and Platis Gialos (Myconian O, Santa Marina, Branco, Petasos): the sheltered south-coast bays with the best bus service (to 22:00) and the water-taxi hub at Platis Gialos; mainstream, convenient, 10 minutes from town by bus.
• The beaches, honestly: Elia is the gay beach; the gay and nude section is at the far right as you face the sea, past the organised sunbeds, and the rocks and the cove towards Agrari are the cruising ground, busiest by day. Super Paradise has gone mainstream (seven straight to three gay, and no nudity any more) except for Jackie O' Beach at its east end, which keeps the drag and the gay crowd from late afternoon; the hotel Jackie O' was building above it is unfinished and in foreclosure. Agrari is the quiet one with a clothing-optional far end. Paradise, Paraga and Psarou are the straight party beaches with the €200 loungers. Sunbeds: €15–25 for two at the plain end of Elia, €60–80 a pair at the clubs, €200–360 at Nammos.

Who changed

• Elysium closed (around 2022, one source; "will remain closed", its own Facebook page) and became the Anandes. There is no Elysium sunset show in 2026, whatever the listings say.
• Akkadian, the gay-only hotel on the ring road, became Axel Beach Mykonos in May 2025.
• Babylon, the drag bar on the Old Port, closed; Cosma opened next to Jackie O' Town and runs nightly drag until about 05:00. Montparnasse, the piano bar, closed as such (the space is "Panthera"); Kastro in Little Venice is now a gay-friendly restaurant and cocktail bar rather than a gay bar; At54 became the mixed 54 Cocktail Lounge; Pierro's has been a café for fifteen years. The gay bar count is four: Jackie O' Town, Cosma, Porta, Lola.
• Jackie O''s parent company had its unfinished hotel above Super Paradise and a villa put up for forced auction in January 2026 after turnover fell; the town bar opened on 9 April and the beach club on 15 May 2026 as usual. Watch for news before you build a week around it.
• Super Paradise is no longer the gay beach; Elia is. The 2026 municipal decision caps outdoor music at Super Paradise at 01:00.
• Geranium changed hands and may or may not be operating (see the table).



Rules, fees and bringing someone back

• Second guests: no Mykonos hotel publishes a visitor policy; the small family hotels register everyone with ID and charge for a third person, the resorts stop strangers at the gate. Book for two if there is any chance of company; this is not a guesthouse town.
• Taxes and fees: VAT of 13% is inside the price. On top, Greece's climate resilience fee, per room per night, paid at the hotel on a separate receipt: €15 at a five-star, €10 four-star, €5 three-star, €2 one and two-star and rooms-to-let, €8 at short-term rentals (€15 for villas over 80 m²) from April to October, a quarter of that in winter; unchanged for 2026 and the 2027 budget. No resort fees. Cruise passengers pay €20 a head to land in June–September.
• Nudity and cruising: tolerated at the customary ends of Elia, Agrari and Panormos, with no Mykonos beach formally designated; the Elia cove is the island's cruising ground by day; the Paraportiani rocks behind the Old Port bars (listing) have been largely built out since 2021 and the public toilets by Jackie O' now have turnstiles. There is no sauna on the island.
• Beach clubs: since 2024 at least 70% of every beach must be free of sunbeds, loungers must sit four metres back from the water, and drones and the MyCoast app enforce it; tax inspectors shut a Mykonos kiosk in August 2026 over €90,000 of unissued receipts. Ask prices before sitting, photograph the menu, and avoid DK Oyster on Platis Gialos, whose €50 cocktails and €400 fish made the news again in July 2026.
• Noise and hours: bars run to 04:00–05:00, Cavo Paradiso to 07:00; the 2026 municipal decision allows amplified music until 03:00 at one Little Venice venue and 00:00–01:30 at the beach clubs.
• Water: the island runs on desalination and bans filling pools from the mains (€1,500 fine); small apartments see cuts before big hotels do. Tap water is not for drinking.
• Prices, so nobody is surprised: coffee €4–7, cocktail €18–25, dinner €40–80 a head at the popular places, a plain gyros still exists. The 2026 season opened 22% down on arrivals and ended with discounts of up to 50% on late bookings; September and early October are the island at half price.

Three picks per budget

• Budget: MyCocoon (rooftop pool, 8 minutes from the bars); Fresh or 23 Hotel (in the lanes, under €120 outside peak); Adonis (quiet and gay-leaning).
• Mid-range: Rochari (the gay-popular pool and the show); Leto (pool, lift, two minutes from Cosma); Hermes (the view, the pool, the climb).
• Upper: Axel Beach Mykonos (the gay pool scene); Theoxenia (design under the windmills, five minutes to everything); Myconian Imperial (the gay beach outside your door).

Getting in late and getting around

• Airport: JMK is 4 km from town; the terminal doubled in size under Fraport. Taxis are a flat €20–30 to Chora (€35–45 to Elia), with a 30–60 minute queue in August, and the island has about 30 taxis in total, so the apps (iMove, Uber, which dispatches taxis only, Bolt) often show nothing between 23:00 and 03:00. The KTEL bus to Fabrika is €2 and hourly until about 22:00 in summer. Book a transfer (€25–50) for late flights; Rochari, Alkyon and Aeolos run free shuttles.
• Ferries: Rafina is the fast route (SeaJets 2h15–2h45, about €53–90); Piraeus has the big Blue Star boats (5h20, about €53) and SeaJets (2h47, €88). Big ferries dock at the New Port in Tourlos, 2 km north: sea bus to the Old Port €2, bus or €10 taxi; the walk along the road is unpleasant with luggage. Morning sailings are calmer than afternoon ones when the meltemi blows.
• Buses: two terminals. Fabrika (south edge of town) serves the airport, New Port, Ornos, Platis Gialos (to 22:00), Paradise (night bus to 02:30) and Paraga; the Super Paradise shuttle from Fabrika is a private service every two hours. The Old Port stop serves Elia, Ano Mera, Kalafatis, Kalo Livadi, Panormos and Agios Stefanos; Elia has a few departures a day and no evening service. €2–2.50 a ride, cash to the driver.
• Water taxi: the south-coast boat links Ornos, Platis Gialos, Paraga, Paradise, Super Paradise, Agrari and Elia hourly from 10:00; €20 for an all-day pass, cash, no singles; last boat back from Elia 17:45; cancelled in strong wind; late May to mid-October.
• Wheels: cars €60–80 a day, quads €40–50; a car licence does not cover a 125 cc scooter in Greece (you need an A1 or A), non-EU drivers need an international permit, and a 2026 bill would restrict quad rental to drivers with five years' licence; quads kill tourists on this island most summers. Chora is car-free; park at Fabrika or the Old Port.
• After the clubs: from Cavo Paradiso or Super Paradise at 05:00 you need a pre-booked transfer or the club's own arrangement; count on €35–40 and a wait. In town, everything is a walk.



Health

• The island has no hospital. The public Health Centre at Argyraina on the Ano Mera road (+30 22893 60000) handles first aid and refers serious cases to Syros or Athens by air; the ambulance service admits it is not staffed around the clock on the islands. Private 24-hour clinics: SEA Medical and MyClinic in Ornos (+30 22890 27350), the Mykonian Hygeia centre on the ring road (urgent care 24 h, +30 6977 654 737). An EHIC or GHIC covers the public centre, not the private clinics; carry insurance.
• PEP within 72 hours: Greece dispenses PEP through hospital infectious-disease units, which means Athens (Andreas Syngros is the one everyone names, Evangelismos, Attikon), and stock outside Athens is unreliable; the realistic island route is a private clinic prescription or the first flight to Athens. Positive Voice (+30 210 86 27 572) helps locate a dose. PrEP has been free in Greece since May 2025 but requires a Greek social-security number and pickup at a mainland hospital pharmacy, so bring your own supply. Athens Checkpoint (Pittaki 4, Monastiraki, Tue–Sat 12:00–20:00) does free rapid tests.
• Sun, wind, sea: the meltemi keeps the Cyclades cooler than the mainland in a heatwave (24–35°C in July 2026 while Athens hit 41°C) but makes the north beaches unswimmable; sea urchins on every rocky entry at Elia and Agrari; purple jellyfish reached the Cyclades in 2025. Pharmacies rotate night duty; the list is on the door.

Mykonos in a paragraph

Pierro's opened in 1973, Jackie Onassis gave her name to a bar and an era, and for thirty years the island was the gayest address in the Mediterranean; then the oligarchs and the influencers came, the Elysium closed, Super Paradise went straight, and the scene contracted to four bars, one beach and one festival that still draws 30,000 men in August. It is smaller and it is still Mykonos: sunset in Little Venice with the windmills behind you, Delos in the morning (boats from the Old Port, €25, the site €20), Kiki's Tavern at Agios Sostis with no electricity and an hour's queue, kopanisti and louza, the pelican, and Cosma's drag at two in the morning. Greece legalised same-sex marriage in February 2024 and slipped to 11th on the 2026 Rainbow Map; nobody will blink at two men holding hands anywhere on this island.

How do I get to Elia without a car?

Bus from the Old Port (a few a day, €2.50, last back around 17:00–18:00) or the €20 all-day water-taxi pass from Platis Gialos (last boat back 17:45). After that it is a €35–55 taxi, if one comes.

What is the tax on the room?

VAT is included; the climate resilience fee is added at check-out: €15 a night at a five-star, €10 at a four-star, €5 at a three-star, €2 at the cheapest, €8 at a short-term rental, April to October. No resort fees.

When is XLSIOR 2027?

Not announced; it has always been the last full week of August (2026 ran 20–25 August). Passes went for €299–350 regular and €520–620 VIP in 2026.
