About this place KEX Hostel and Hotel Reykjavik

KEX Hostel and Hotel Reykjavik is a dual-purpose venue located in the heart of Reykjavik's 101 district, offering both accommodation and sauna facilities in one convenient location. As a gay sauna, it provides a relaxed social space where visitors can unwind and connect with other guests in a welcoming environment. Reykjavik's gay scene, though modest in size compared to larger European capitals, is known for being inclusive and friendly. Gay saunas in Iceland tend to attract a mix of locals and international travelers, creating a cosmopolitan atmosphere. The venue's combination of hostel and hotel accommodations makes it an ideal base for LGBTQ+ travelers exploring Iceland's capital, whether you're visiting for a few nights or planning a longer stay. Located on Skúlagata 28, the venue sits in a central area with easy access to Reykjavik's restaurants, shops, and nightlife. Whether you're traveling solo, with friends, or as a couple, the dual facility setup means you can experience the sauna and still have comfortable accommodation nearby. For practical planning, visit their website at kexhostel.is to check availability, rates, and facility details before your visit.

Stayed here for 5 days during my recent to Iceland. Its very chic and comfy! Our room had a great view of the church! The staff are super friendly and helpful! Its affordable and quiet for a hostel. Highly recommend! (Do bring shower shoes for the shared showers tho. The bathrooms get a little icky after a lot of use).

I spent a week in Iceland, all but one night at Kex, and this quirky and fun hostel was one of the highlights. The location is fantastic, walking distance to downtown pubs and restaurants. The building is old but this is part of its charm- sort of a cross between a Chicago speakeasy and a Berlin style nightclub and a Serbian dorm room. Breakfast is very filling and the beer selection is decent. The best though, is the live music events and the courtyard in the back. Great place where tourists and Icelanders can chat and mix during those events.

Stayed for 4 nights in a shared room with 6 women on the 4th floor. It was a nice stay. Staff were attentive and kind. The kitchen on our floor was clean and there were plenty of bathrooms that were cleaned daily. Just note that towels come with an extra fee. Location is also great, close to restaurants, bars and souvenir shops. Overall, a comfortable and convenient stay. 👏💗

On my very first day, I bought a pizza without realizing there wasn’t actually an oven 😅 Instead of letting me feel awkward or disappointed, the person at reception immediately noticed and kindly showed me an alternative way to sort it out. That small, thoughtful moment really stood out. Great atmosphere, great people, and unforgettable energy. You meet so many like-minded solo travellers and somehow, you never end up solo by the end.

This place is amazing, book here if you're going to Reykjavik. When we arrived I accidentally booked a day late but the receptionist immediately helped me fix it and even though we were like 4 hours early for check in they let us into our room! We booked a double room but got a free-of-charge upgrade. Both rooms had TVs and they were great. This hostel is right in the city centre and it's on the seafront. That does mean it's windy as hell when you step outside but the view makes up for it. Thank you KEX for your hospitality!!
