Reykjavik Bear (RVKBear)
About This Event
Reykjavik Bear, Iceland's annual bear weekend, kicks off in early September. It's the successor to Bears on Ice, which ran for about 15 years, and the organisers say it's an intimate gathering for pass holders - not a big open festival. They receive a culture grant from Reykjavík City.
The weekend's evening events are the welcome party, "Friday Top-Off!" party, and the Mr. Reykjavík Bear contest and show.
Daytime activities include group trips to the Golden Circle, geothermal spa visits at Sky Lagoon, and food walks in town. You can also opt for brunch and merchandise.
Most events happen in downtown 101.
Passes are sold through the shop on reykjavikbear.is, but prices aren't listed.
It's cool and wet in September, so pack accordingly for the tours.
The 2026 edition ran from 3 to 6 September. Volcanic activity on the Reykjanes Peninsula forced some changes - the Blue Lagoon trip was dropped. Ormur took the title of Mr. Reykjavík Bear 2026, with Karl as runner-up.
The 2027 edition is set for 2 to 5 September, but the programme's still being finalised.

Practical Tips
Book Accommodation Early
Reykjavik is a small city and hotels fill up quickly, especially during the event. Book your accommodation well in advance.
Volcanic Activity
While volcanic activity is part of Iceland's nature and has not impacted daily life or travel, it has influenced some festival planning. The Blue Lagoon is not being prioritized as the main lagoon visit this year as a precaution.
Airport Transfer Discount
Flybus offers a 10% discount on transfers between Keflavik International Airport and Reykjavik for RVKBear guests. Details are provided via email after booking.
Dietary Needs
If you have special dietary requirements, notify the organizers by emailing growl@reykjavikbear.is. They will do their best to accommodate preferences, but severe allergies or intolerances should be communicated in advance.
