My boyfriend and I went to this bar, just steps from the Colosseum. He ordered a spritz, while I didn't drink anything because I'm undergoing treatment that doesn't allow me to drink alcohol or sugary drinks.
During our stay, I left to use the bathroom, and upon my return, my boyfriend noticed two staff members, a blue-eyed girl and a boy with facial tattoos, exchanging jokes and laughing, even saying, "We understand each other with a look." When they realized they were being watched, they immediately stopped.
Once I was informed of what had happened, I approached the girl to ask for clarification and if there was a problem. I also told her that if they were laughing about something involving me, I wanted to understand and maybe laugh too. The response was that there was no problem, but the discomfort I felt remained.
Of course, I can't know for sure what was causing their laughter, but the situation made me feel judged and uncomfortable. For this reason, my experience was very negative. Furthermore, the cocktail my boyfriend ordered wasn't particularly appreciated.
Personally, I didn't feel welcomed or respected, and for this reason, I don't feel comfortable recommending this place.
Response to the owner:
Unfortunately, your response confirms the impression I had at your place. Instead of simply explaining your version of events or denying any improper behavior by the staff, you chose to publicly attribute psychological problems to me, even citing personality disorders and delusions of reference. I find this behavior profoundly disrespectful and unprofessional.
I simply shared my perceptions and the discomfort I felt at the time. You were free to disagree with my interpretation, but not to make assessments about my mental health without any expertise or knowledge of me.
If your intent was to demonstrate the professionalism of the place, I fear this response had the opposite effect.
Regardless of my personal situation, I consider this type of language to be profoundly irresponsible. There are people who are genuinely struggling with psychological difficulties, self-esteem issues, depression, and situations of great emotional fragility. Reading such comments publicly could have a very severe impact on those who are already going through a difficult time.
P.S. I would have expected a very different response from a bar located in the heart of Rome. It would have been courteous and professional to apologize for the inconvenience a customer felt and invite her to return to reconsider, rather than trying at all costs to be right by personally attacking the person who left the review.
I stand by my review, but I strongly advise against this bar.
