What to expect
Roman saunas are pretty standard for Italy: lockers or private cabins when you get in, a steam room, a dry sauna, showers, and shared cruising areas. A few spots have a pool or jacuzzi. Places are usually kept up well, and the staff are straightforward about what goes on.
Prices are reasonable compared to northern Europe. A locker session is usually €10-€20, depending on the place and time. Private rooms cost more. Towels are often included or available for a small charge at the front desk.
Timing
Weekday afternoons get a regular local crowd. Evenings and weekend afternoons are busier. Some saunas stay open 24 hours or close very late, which works with Rome's nightlife—people do go after the bars shut down. Check specific opening hours before you head out; they can change with the season.
