About this place Yard 32

Yard 32 sits at number 32 Strait Street, the shoulder-wide lane that ran wild in the first half of the twentieth century as the drinking quarter for Mediterranean fleets, full of music halls, barmaids and blurred lines. The street's revival over the last decade has been led by small bars like this one, and Yard 32 wears the history well. The menu is built around gin: over 200 bottlings, served with a card of forty-odd tapas that lean Maltese and Spanish. There is live music on many evenings and tables out in the alley, where the stone walls keep the summer heat off and conversation carries from one table to the next whether you invited it or not. The bar markets itself as gay-friendly and shows up in the LGBTQ+ guides to Malta, and on a street with Strait Street's past that feels less like a marketing line and more like continuity. Hours run Wednesday to Sunday from 6.30pm to about 1am. Pair it with Kween two streets over on Merchant Street for the compact Valletta queer circuit.

We saw board on the main street , and came a bit before 5pm, for one round, and we stayed for a bit longer, because we really like it. The street is quiet, not busy and you can have normal conversation, which we notice is very rare in Valletta in the previous places that we visit. However, the downside was when the bar next door opened around 6pm and started to put very loud music, in that moment the music in this bar started to go up as well, and then it's started to mix, and it lost the vibe we had until that moment.

If you’re in Valletta, Yard 32 on Strait Street is a must-visit. The selection of gins (over 200!) and artisanal tonics is mind-blowing, and the staff are incredibly knowledgeable—they don't just pour a drink, they craft it in massive balloon glasses with custom garnishes that perfectly complement the botanicals. Pair your drink with a few of their fresh, homemade tapas (the selection is huge), grab a table outside on the historic street, and enjoy the lively atmosphere. Excellent service, vibrant energy, and easily one of the best bars in Malta. We will definitely be back!
