Moldova Pride
About This Event
Moldova Pride is the week-long festival of GENDERDOC-M and the LGBTQI+ Moldova Platform. In 2026 it reached its 25th edition. The march in Chișinău has a long history of opposition. The mayor has said he won't accept it, and in May 2025 Socialist and Communist councillors voted to ban LGBTQ+ public events. GENDERDOC-M called that vote legally void, and the march went ahead.
The 2026 festival started on 14 June with the theme of legal recognition for same-sex couples. The march, renamed Chișinău Pride, set off on 21 June at noon from the corner of București and Ismail streets under heavy police protection. Radio Moldova described a peaceful crowd of dozens. The evening before, Socialists held a "Family March" that drew thousands. Afterwards, priests walked the march route sprinkling holy water.
The record turnout is from 2024, with more than 800 marchers. The 2027 dates hadn't been announced when we checked.
