About this place Mauro Mansion

Mauro Mansion is a small, intimate boutique hotel housed in a classic 16th-century canal house in Amsterdam's historic city centre. With just 9 rooms, it offers a personal, relaxed atmosphere perfect for travelers seeking something beyond a standard hotel experience. The location is wonderfully central—situated between two former medieval city gates and only 400 metres from Central Station, making it an ideal base for exploring Amsterdam's iconic canals, museums, and neighbourhoods on foot. The hotel embodies a quirky, romantic aesthetic that appeals to LGBTQ+ travelers looking for character and charm. Staying in a historic canal house gives you an authentic Amsterdam experience, with views and surroundings that reflect centuries of the city's unique architecture. The property offers a good-value breakfast, helping you start each day without breaking your budget. Amsterdam has long been a welcoming destination for LGBTQ+ travellers, with a vibrant gay scene, Pride celebrations, and a generally open, inclusive atmosphere throughout the city. Small boutique hotels like this one provide a more intimate alternative to larger chains, often with more personality and local knowledge from staff. Whether you're visiting for the canal-side romance, the cultural attractions, or the lively social scene, a centrally located hotel puts you within easy reach of everything the city has to offer.

I had booked for last week via booking.com, but despite there being a temporary hold on my credit card, I received a notification 3 days in advance that the credit card could not be verified. During a phone call about this, it wasn't about the credit card at all, but just "yes, there is a small problem with booking.com" and whether I would be willing to accept another room that was normally more expensive. I indicated my preference for the booked room but also stated that I was willing to take the other room. It would be fine. When I checked myself the next day, 1 day before the booking, to see if it had worked, the booking had to be cancelled because the credit card supposedly wasn't working. Even my offer to transfer the money in advance was not sufficient. They were no longer reachable by phone. The room never became available again on booking.com. I suspect they were overbooked and there was nothing wrong with my credit card.
