Hotel Mar A Vista

In the category of guesthouse, which is what it really is, it would have earned 3 stars. As a hotel It's worth 2 stars for the price charged, because it really is the lowest price you might find. Very old hotel, facilities in need of maintenance and renovation. Taps that don't close and drip, bathroom fixtures with signs of age, stained carpets, light bulbs that don't work, a phone that doesn't work, and the beer on top of the cake: Algarve 10m from the beach and no air conditioning = suicide oven. The room had a view of other houses, but I believe that due to the location there are others with stunning views. Finally, having to speak English at a hotel reception in Portugal is something I still don't understand.

The hotel is definitely dated.

Vertical Y friendly staff

Lovely hotel. Very clean rooms, comfortable beds, great views of the beach. Also only a short walk to the beach and main busy area. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful. I was arriving 4 hrs before check-in and was allowed to leave my bags but on arrival my room was ready. I originally only booked 1 night but ended up booking an extra night as I enjoyed it that much.. I highly recommend and when I return, I will be staying here again. Small pool but who needs a big one when the beach is just down the road. Breakfast was also included.

Time seems to have stopped 30 years ago in this hotel, and the bathrooms are even older. The room smells of damp. I deliberately left the window open in the morning to air it out. However, when I returned in the evening, the window was closed, and the stench was the same as it had been that morning. I could hear every noise from the other rooms; I even knew what the guests in the room next door were talking about. All the guests, not just me, had trouble locking their room. I was in room 409, and there you could hear a pump turning on loudly every 15 minutes, and it continued all night long. The view of the beach from the balcony where we had breakfast was beautiful. There was ample parking in front of the hotel. Friendly staff.

Old rooms. Defective AC. Weak breakfast. Good location, good view.

Unfortunately, I am not satisfied with my stay. There is hardly any water pressure in the shower, and the water is only lukewarm. The room is much too cold. I have to use the air conditioning to get any warmth at all. It was also very cold in the evenings and at night – but it doesn't work well – it only gets warm briefly, and then just blows out air. Reception is trying to help, but the plumber hasn't fixed the problem yet.
