About this place Seaside Grand Hotel Residencia

The Seaside Grand Hotel Residencia is an upscale five-star hotel on Avenida del Oasis in Maspalomas, on the edge of the dunes and the Oasis palm grove. It is a mainstream luxury hotel, gay-friendly but not a gay hotel. Rooms and suites are spread across low Canarian-style villas, most with terraces, and there are outdoor pools, a spa and an upscale restaurant. It is quiet and expensive, and it attracts couples who want calm rather than nightlife. The gay bars of the Yumbo Centre in Playa del Inglés are a short taxi ride away. Maspalomas beach is close by, and the gay section of the beach is near kiosk 7. Google reviewers rate it 4.8.

We stay at dozens of hotels annually and have had the pleasure of staying in a number of top notch properties throughout Spain. However, this property is a different level altogether. It’s not just the quality of the rooms and the grounds, which are superb. Staff here consistently goes above and beyond expectations. They were so friendly, helpful, and accommodating. Every interaction was well orchestrated and surprising in its professional and yet warm approach. And then there is the food. We eat out a lot and frequently go to Michelin rated restaurants. The food here is simply outstanding: breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Such variety, creativity, and quality ingredients. The only downside would be that it is nearly impossible to not put on weight. We initially had only chosen to have breakfasts but upon check-in we were invited to upgrade to half pension for a very reasonable add-on. We rarely do this because the food quality simply isn’t worth it. Not the case here. Every meal exceeded our expectations substantially. The hotel brings an older crowd, mostly retired, just a handful of families. It was primarily couples at or near retirement. This was perfect for us but might not be your cup of tea if you are looking for a younger, trendier, livelier experience. This is a place to relax and be pampered. We would return without hesitation and would highly recommend if fortune finds you visiting Gran Canaria.

We absolutely loved staying here, we had a really nice and quiet room, the gardens are stunning, there are loads of staff who are very friendly and helpful (like 1 per 2 guests?!). The food is amazing. It's both good and bad in that we massively overate which is not good for the waistline, but we simply didn't stop ourselves because it was superb. Be warned, they really don't like to see guys knees or ankles at dinner, and so you must wear trousers! The good news is you don't need a monacle or tophat or powdered wig. The pools were great, both a nice cooler but still pleasant temperature main pool, and a very nice very warm pool. They had some saunas we forgot to use since the weather was so nice and warm. The gym is excellent, decent selection of weights and machines.

This is an oasis! A luxury hotel with a warmth and charm which makes it feel such a treat. All the staff smile and greet their guests with genuine hospitality. My favourite place.

Upon arrival, we were given a room on the ground floor, room 102! Even though we had requested a room on the first floor back in December, it was a room without windows in the toilet—the only one like that in the entire hotel—with a nice view of the garden and the garden waste. We requested and received another room, room 207, for an additional charge of 645 euros! This room smelled musty, and that came from the bathroom cabinet which contained mold. A workman came to take a look and tightened the siphon a bit; a cleaning lady half-cleaned the cabinet at my request, but the musty smell naturally remained. Glad we can go home again; this is the first time after 9 stays here. Renovation is in order, and the cheaper rooms should finally get a walk-in shower or walk-in bath as well. The bath is high and difficult to get in and out of, and showering itself is dangerous for older people, and there are many of them here. In this way, it is no longer grand luxury.
