The hotel was excellent, with a wonderful atmosphere and an amazing location that made it easy to access everything around the city. The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly throughout our stay. Our flight was scheduled for the evening, so we needed somewhere to store our luggage while we explored the city. We asked if the hotel could help, and although many other hotels we have stayed at did not offer this service, they were happy to store our luggage for us. This was a huge convenience and saved us a lot of time and hassle. The room was comfortable and well maintained, and the overall experience exceeded our expectations. A special thank you to Joaquin and his team for their excellent service and hospitality. We truly appreciated their help and would happily stay here again.

I would like to thank Joaquin and his team for treating us so nicely throughout the whole journey. Vibes are good around here, the rooftop is amazing during day and night. Definitely will comeback next time to try the pool and other facilities. I really recommend this place to stay either for short or long

Update: While I appreciate management’s response to my review, the fact that it was made sooner than a reply to an email sent weeks ago (still unanswered) is consistent with the experiences I mention below. It does not suggest a willingness to address feedback and improve. Original review: The location is excellent, and the building has a lot of potential. The bones of the room we were in, with both an open balcony and a small alcove with beautiful stained glass, were grand. The flooring in the main part of the room was a cheap veneer that seemed like it could peel off at any moment and the carpet in the alcove seemed dirty, which brought down the quality of the room, and some of the decor could also use an update. Being by far the most expensive hotel we stayed in during our two weeks in Spain — with others having private terraces or better amenities — it was disappointing. I think where I was most surprised by the experience was the poor service. I’m not a high-maintenance guest who demands to be treated like royalty, but there were basic failures. First of all, we never received hand soap. We asked maids, we checked after room service every day, and eventually we bought our own because we did not want to keep stepping into the shower to get bath gel. It was so strange. Secondly, we had travel disruptions on our way and they never responded to or even acknowledged our emails. Afterward, when we emailed the manager, we also went an extremely long time without hearing from them and had to CC another Axel email just to get a reply. Recent emails have also gone unanswered for very long periods. Again, very unusually poor service for something that is low effort. Finally, what was the most surprising experience was when my husband asked where we might go nearby to hail a taxi. The front desk person told him it was not his job to know that. I’m not even sure what more to say because it was so hilariously bad. Again, this seems to be a unique failure of this location. We stayed at the newer Axel in Valencia and had a thoroughly positive experience. This one seems to be showing its age and mismanagement. Maybe try 2 if you still want an Axel in Barcelona.

Very nice place and excellent service

Everything was good, staff know what they are doing. The only downside was the bathroom size.

My wife and I had an excellent stay! Initially, we were a little apprehensive due to the hotel's concept, but we were pleasantly surprised. All the staff are very respectful and knowledgeable, especially Joaquin, who attended to us with great attention and promptness. The location is perfect for exploring Barcelona. Don't miss the Sky Bar; the experience there was super relaxed and enjoyable. It's definitely worth it!

The Axel is often hyped in the community – after our stay, we unfortunately can't quite understand why. The hotel feels a bit dated overall. On the plus side, the location is very central and convenient, with many things within easy walking distance. Check-in was rather impersonal and lacked customer service. Our room was very dark, and the bathroom was very noisy. The rooftop pool area also disappointed us: a small pool, an uninspiring view, and hardly any drinks at the bar. The spa area costs extra and, in our opinion, wasn't worth the money. The gym also seemed neglected, and there were no towels available. Even breakfast looked much better in the pictures than it did in reality. In conclusion: For the price and the hotel's reputation, we expected significantly more. Overall, a disappointing experience.
