About this place Jugendherberge Bern

Jugendherberge Bern is the city's official Swiss Youth Hostels property, a mainstream hostel that is gay-friendly but not a gay venue. It sits on Weihergasse in the Marzili area, right below the Federal Palace and close to the Aare, so the Old Town is a short uphill walk or a ride on the Marzilibahn funicular. Expect the standard Swiss hostel setup: dorms plus private rooms, a clean and orderly feel, and prices that are low by Bern standards but not cheap by anyone else's. Google reviewers rate it 4.3 from about 775 reviews. In summer the riverbank nearby fills with people swimming in the Aare.

A modern, lovingly designed youth hostel with excellent service. They find a solution for every problem. As a family with three children, we've been coming here for years and always feel right at home. The kids love the breakfast and the games (table football, table tennis, and chess). The Aare River and the Marzilli river swimming area are just a stone's throw away, as is the old town. We parents especially appreciate the wonderful beer garden. We're already looking forward to next year! 🩵
