About This Event
Brighton Bear Weekend is a four-day gathering in Brighton, held every July, where bears, cubs, otters, and their friends come together. It started around 2010 as a small get-together organised by Chris Murphy - though the exact details of that first year are murky. Now, a volunteer committee runs the show, raising money for local LGBTQ+ causes like the Brighton Rainbow Fund. In 2021, they handed over 4,000 pounds to the Rainbow Fund; in 2025, the Sussex Beacon and Lunch Positive got the cash.
The weekend follows a familiar pattern: Thursday quiz, always fully booked, at spots like Nautilus Lounge; Friday welcome party, where you'll meet the Mr Brighton Bear contenders, often in Kemptown's Dorset Gardens. Saturday's Garden Party is the main draw, followed by a club night and a Sunday party.
You'll want to stay in Kemptown, as most events happen there, and Brighton rooms fill up fast in July.
The 2026 weekend, the 16th edition, took place from 9 to 12 July. Aidan Conner Frame was crowned Mr Brighton Bear 2025.
The 2027 dates hadn't been announced when we checked.
