Brighton might be the UK's most LGBTQ+-friendly city outside London. Kemptown, around St James's Street, is a dense gay neighborhood. It's got bars, clubs, and a real community. An hour from London by train, it's worth the trip.

Main Clubs

    • Club Revenge (32-34 Old Steine) — Brighton's main gay superclub. It has a big dance floor, multiple rooms, and weekly themed nights like Poptastic (pop music) and G-A-Y Brighton. It stays open late. This is where you go for serious clubbing. It's on the seafront road, easy to find.
    • Subline — An underground gay club. It has a darker, more electronic sound. Popular with bears and the leather crowd. It's more alternative than Revenge.

    Bars — Kemptown

    • Legends Bar (31-34 Marine Parade) — This is a seafront bar and hotel. It has a pool, sun deck, and sea views. Good for afternoon drinks and early evening. The ground floor bar is busy on weekends.
    • The Zone (St James's Street) — A busy bar in the middle of Kemptown. Regular drag shows, karaoke, and other entertainment. Expect a reliable crowd seven nights a week.
    • Bulldog (31 St James's Street) — One of Kemptown's older spots. Bar downstairs, small club upstairs. Unpretentious, mixed gay crowd. Good for a pub-style night.
    • Doctor Brightons (16 Kings Road, seafront) — A gay pub on the seafront. It has Victorian-era decor. Cozy and welcoming. One of the more distinctive interiors on the seafront strip.
    • The Camelford Arms (30 Compton Avenue) — A neighborhood gay pub away from the main strip. Bears, leather, and locals hang out here. More relaxed and local than the St James's Street places.

Brighton Pride

The first weekend of August. This is one of the UK's biggest Pride events, bringing hundreds of thousands of people to Brighton. The parade goes from Hove Lawns through the city center. Preston Park hosts the main festival with multiple stages. Accommodation books out months ahead, and prices spike. Book early or consider a day trip from London (trains are packed but frequent). The city gets taken over, in a good way. Even non-Pride visitors usually enjoy it.
