UK Black Pride
About This Event
UK Black Pride is Britain's national Pride for LGBTQ+ people of colour. It started in 2005 with a group of Black lesbians on a trip to Southend-on-Sea. Phyll Opoku-Gyimah (Lady Phyll) was one of them and is still the organisation's CEO.
It is a free one-day festival, not a parade. In recent years it has been held on a Sunday in August at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford, east London, roughly from noon to 8pm. There are stages for music, spoken word and speeches, plus community stalls and health services.
The last festival took place on Sunday 10 August 2025. It was the 20th anniversary and drew more than 25,000 people, according to Attitude.
There was no festival in 2026. On 7 May 2026 the organisers announced a “strategic reset” and cancelled the August event they had planned for Stratford. They talked about sustainability and long-term impact but gave no specific reason. Smaller events ran instead, including partnerships with UAL and DIVA and the return of Black-Oktoberfest. Lady Phyll has said the festival will be back in 2027. No 2027 date had been announced when we checked.
