Newcastle Pride
About This Event
Newcastle Pride is the North East's main Pride weekend. It began in July 2008 as Pride on the Tyne in Leazes Park and for years was a large free festival on the Town Moor run by the charity Northern Pride. That charity closed in November 2025 after 17 years. It handed the event, its £8,500 closing balance and all its equipment to Curious Futures, the trading arm of the local LGBTQ+ arts charity Curious Arts. Unlike some recent UK prides, this one didn't collapse; it changed hands.
The event now takes place in the city centre. The march gathers at the Civic Centre, sets off at midday, and goes down Northumberland Street past Grey's Monument in about an hour. The march, market stalls and most daytime events are free. The main music stage, the Pride Arena at Times Square, is ticketed.
In 2025 the organisers counted about 16,500 people on the march. The same year, the High Court backed a claim that Northumbria Police had acted unlawfully in letting uniformed officers march, and the force then kept uniformed officers out of the parade.
The 2026 weekend ran on 25 and 26 July, a week later than usual to avoid the World Cup final. The theme was 'City of Hope, Streets of Joy', and Nadine Coyle, Katy B, Danny Beard and Bimini were on the bill. We couldn't find a 2026 crowd figure, and the 2027 dates hadn't been announced when we checked.
