Hides Hotel Cairns

Spent 4 nights at Hides Hotel with my wife and our 11-month-old infant. I would give the hotel 2 stars purely for its exceptional location. Almost everything in Cairns is within walking distance the Night Markets, Esplanade Lagoon pool area, Cairns Central Shopping Centre, aquarium, supermarkets including Woolworths, cafés, restaurants, and many other attractions. The convenience of the location helps save a significant amount on transport costs such as taxis or Uber, as you can walk almost everywhere at any time. However, if you are looking for a high-quality accommodation experience, this may not be the ideal place for you. The hotel staff were not particularly welcoming, and their attitude at times felt unfriendly. During our 4-night stay, there was no housekeeping service provided. By the third day, our rubbish bin had started smelling badly, and we had to leave it outside in the hallway ourselves. The room and facilities appeared outdated. The curtains had visible fungus/mould, bathroom fittings were old, and the hot water worked inconsistently. Towels were only provided after we specifically requested them. Overall hygiene and cleanliness standards were very poor and concerning, especially when travelling with an infant. We never allowed our baby on the floor due to the cleanliness condition of the room. Additionally, the room felt much smaller than how it appeared in the photos online. That said, for our purpose it was manageable because we spent most of our time outside exploring Cairns and only returned to the hotel to sleep. We did not try the hotel food, so I cannot comment on dining. In summary, this hotel may suit travellers looking for a very budget-friendly stay in an excellent central location, but not those expecting comfort, cleanliness, or quality service.

we booked our stay through Qantas we stayed 17 nights the staff were great it is within walking distance of most places around the Cairns area it was listed as wheelchair accessible but is NOT the room was OK for a budget Hotel but sound traveled from the street. we could also hear other guests talking & slamming doors. the internet kept cutting out every time I tried to use it to check my emails or attend Zoom meetings

Not a nice place to stay. The room was dusty TV remote hadn’t been cleaned in a very long time. The pillow was rock hard and the pillow case was dusty as well. Leaving me with a very itchy mouth. TV didn’t work. The bed was 2singles pushed together so when u rolled over u ended up in the middle of the to. I will not stay here again

Not so cheap and definitely not cheerful. Avoid.

I don't know why this hotel only has a 3.3 rating, but the reviews are much better. The lobby has air conditioning, the rooms are relatively clean, and the issues mentioned online about cleanliness, age, and inadequate air conditioning are not present. On the contrary, I think this price is a very good choice for this location. The downsides are that the cleanliness needs improvement, and the room Wi-Fi is a bit slow.

Hides Hotel Cairns was the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in. They refused to release my $100 deposit, claiming the room was “messy” — a completely self-invented rule that was never mentioned anywhere before. When I asked them to provide this new rule in writing, they refused. The sink was leaking, no drinking water was provided, and even basic things like fresh towels took days. Staff were unhelpful, breakfast was cold, stale, and low quality, and there was no room service for the entire week — which is probably why the room ended up messy in the first place. Avoid this hotel completely

Extremely disappointing experience at Hides Hotel Cairns 4/87 Lake St, Cairns City QLD 4870. • Deposit was unfairly deducted for a “messy room,” though no such rule was mentioned anywhere. • Drinking water had to be taken from a broken, unhygienic bathroom basin sink. Bathroom pictures attached. • When we requested to refill bottles from the kitchen filter, staff refused, saying there was “no space” for our bottles. • No room service for 4 days, yet deposit deductions were threatened over room condition. • Breakfast was unacceptable — frozen food and stale, rock-hard bread; we stopped after Day 1 but received no refund. • Guests are expected to manage toiletries and towels themselves — very poor hospitality overall. The one star rating is given due to the hotel location

ETA - I appreciate the response from the hotel, and am upgrading service one star as a result. Arriva date was Wednesday, Dec. 10, and the reservation was under the name W. Baker via a service called Guest Reservations., itinerary # R5952710645 This hotel is subpar. We have no idea whether or not the rooms are nice or the ac satisfactory or breakfast enjoyable. We never got past the front lobby. Arriving directly from the airport fully loaded and tired from a full day of traveling with two layovers we met a locked door at 9:30 pm on a Wednesday. On the door was a sign indicating that reception closed at 11:30. We rang the bell and knocked but nothing. Eventually a returning resident let us in and we saw the sign apologizing for an early closure of the reception desk. We called all three posted phone numbers for the hotel two of which were advertised as 24/7. One was disconnected and the other two didnt answer. We walked through the rain to another hotel. Returning a couple days later we requested a refund. Reception informed us we had been sent an email at 9pm Wednesday directing us how to retrieve a key from the lockbox. We asked for and received a copy of the email. Pointing out to the receptionist that the email address was quite different from mine he apologized but said that because an email was sent (somewhere) there would be no refund. I cannot see how this service can be considered anything less than absolute crap and our credit card company agreed when reversing the charges.
