Hôtel Merian Bâle

Very practical, convenient, easy to understand, and a great location overall. It has a self-service coffee machine, which is fantastic for anyone who wants a quick pick-me-up 😅. Everything is well explained and signposted.

Late in the evening, when we already were in the bed, some strangers entered our room. Seems like the room go double booked or the key card worked on our room as well, we don't know. As there's no reception we couldn't tell what happened directly to someone, so we emailed them. However, the first email got ignored and just after the second email we got a short answer with a simple excuse and no explanation back. Seems like the only focus is to cut down personel cost, even if the system is faulty. The location is pretty nice though. But still: Wouldn't recommend.

You need a lot of patience at this hotel. Online check-in. No staff. No information. The Basel ticket is sent to your phone. No tram or bus schedule. No city map. No brochures. No cleaning. A note indicating the cleaning wasn't seen. The refrigerator wasn't cooling. Breakfast at Migros was good. The parking garage costs €30 per day. I did find a friendly employee who explained a few things to me. Not recommended for seniors.

For this low price I'm pleasantly surprised. Room is bigger that typical double in Hotel. We travel with kid and space is important. The main thing about this hotel is location, it is awesome. There is a community room on ground floor with tee/coffee and apples in the morning. Good enough to spend even 2-3 nights.

Hotel in a prime location, unfortunately, that's where the positives end. The value for money is very poor. The room was very small and sparsely furnished with old furniture. Service was practically nonexistent, as everything had to be done by the guests themselves. I stayed in a room on the first floor (supposedly a superior room), and the river view was the only nice feature. There was a lot of noise in the hallway all night, leading me to suspect that rooms might be rented by the hour (??). There are plenty of other hotels in the city, so you can easily avoid this one.

This hotel has a fantastic location. It's within walking distance of everything, and there are bus stops just 50 meters away. Our room, in particular, had a view of the river and the famous bridge. At night, the lights created a wonderful visual spectacle. Check-in was very easy; you could complete the check-in process online without interacting with anyone, and even lock your own door. It was a great experience. As for the room, the bed, pillows, and sheets were both very comfortable and very clean. The bathroom and wardrobes were quite adequate. There was also a mini-fridge and a safety deposit box. If I were to return to Basel, I would definitely choose this hotel again.
