Hôtel Spalentor Bâle

Very centrally located. Unfortunately, there's construction going on. However, it's not a problem with the windows closed. The room size was a pleasant surprise. Unfortunately, there's no separate shower, but there is a bathtub. The staff is very friendly.

This is a wonderful hotel situated across one of the most beautiful city gates in Europe: the Spalentor gate of Basel. It is within walking distance of old town, Marktplatz, and Basel Minster. The university botanical garden is on the other side of the street. Hotel provides tickets for free public transport; bus 30 stops right outside the hotel and is 5 minutes from Bahnhoff SBB. Hotel room was immaculate. Breakfast is exceptional. Staff are friendly and helpful. A great boutique hotel.

Stayed there pre AMA River Cruise. The location was perfect to Old Town and the rhine. The rooms were comfortable and clean. The staff were friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend this Hotel if you are staying in Basel.

One of the best hotel experiences I have ever had. It was a true pleasure to stay at the Hotel Spalentor in Basel; they certainly seem to understand what hospitality is all about. The hotel is not much to look at from the exterior, but do not let that fool you. Inside, you are warmly welcomed by a great staff, with Swiss hospitality and efficiency, into a cozy room with everything you need for a delightful stay. My room was comfortable and quiet. Big comfortable bed. There was a nice big chair to relax in, and windows that opened. A good size desk as well. And a decent spot to store luggage. Enough closet space, as well as a fine little mini-bar, and coffee and tea facilities in the room. Breakfast is on the top floor, with a nice selection, not overwhelming, but perfectly sufficient to fortify you for the day. There is plenty of space in the breakfast room, and it does not feel too crowded. On the ground floor is a small bar and social area. Also, a nice little gym (which I used three times), a pool table, and another small social area. The hotel is not located right in the heart of Basel, but within a ten-minute walk, you are in Marktplatz, which is one of the main squares, and a transit hub. And just a block from the hotel is a bus stop for buses to the main train station, with buses running every 5-7 minutes. So, while you are not in the center, you are quite well situated (and the hotel gives you a free bus pass). Finally, for Basel, the price of this hotel is quite reasonable. It is rare that I find nothing bad to say about a hotel stay. I stayed here three nights and had an extremely positive experience. I would wholeheartedly stay here again, and give it my highest recommendation.

No, it's not a 5-star hotel! But everything is just right! Clean, modern, well-maintained, spacious rooms, and friendly and helpful staff at reception. Drinks, including cocktails from the bar, can also be enjoyed in the small garden, weather permitting. Public transport connections are excellent; bus stops are practically on the doorstep, about 50 meters away.

A lovely, very convenient 4* hotel to stay at when visiting Basel. A short (10 min) walk to the central Marktplatz, through a beautiful, mostly pedestrian zone of old buildings. The rooms were huge and clean, with comfortable beds and pillows. The staff were friendly and accommodating. All in all a wonderful stay.
