Crystal Gateway Marriott

This is my first trip to the Washington, DC area. I selected Crystal Gateway Marriott based upon the Marriott name. However, I'm quite surprised by 2 important experiences here. First, when asking about the unstable, hard to access internet service from my room, I was told that anyone near the room numbers that end with "17" cannot get stable internet service. But my room number is 509. I'm here on a PhD trip from Pepperdine University in Los Angeles County. Every time I try to access the internet from my room, it takes several tries to connect, and once the access is there, it doesn't stay connected. This led me to be up until after 1:00 AM, trying to get something done, after a full day flight. I'm having to bring my things down to the lobby, hoping I've carried everything with me. The front desk at one point, offered a small discount for this inconvenience, while apologizing that it's much. This evening, the front desk suggested I upgrade the service, paying $6 and that they would credit me for that. Yet, the other agent told me two days ago that the upgrade isn't worth it. The other challenge here was when I asked about vegan options within the Marriott here, or something nearby. They didn't know of anything. Yet, three days into being here, I've noticed an Indian restaurant across the street. They always have vegan options. This means that the staff are not informed of what vegan means and where to find it. Shavon this evening offered to provide complimentary upgrade for internet and shared that she will put a note on my record. - Zoey

BED BUGS! Nice to have the metro access, but that is where it ends. My room was one of the "pure" rooms. Unfortunately, the bedbug bites clearly mean it isn't 'that' pure. My stay was on the week of 6/10/26. When I arrived home, there were multiple bites around my torso and arms, in the EXACT type of pattern of bed bugs, lines and regions, particularly in the front of my stomach. I am appalled that I didn't read the other reviews that shared the same. Shame because the location was super easy to the metro and anywhere in DC. I would also say the hotel restaurant food was so-so, pricey but it is a hotel. My waitress could not answer any questions about the food and did not speak English. I love immigrants and all the diversity they bring to our country, but if the person serving your food can't understand or speak about the food in any way, as in I had to point to the menu item and only got a nod. Marriott should do better.

I booked this hotel due to its convenient location next to the metro station. We arrived only to be told that the metro station adjacent to the hotel was closed for construction for the weekend and that we would have to take shuttles to the next closest metro station. To catch the shuttle, you had to walk under a dark overpass with homeless people sleeping on the ground and in flower beds. That area was better lit at night, but the sidewalk in front of the hotel was dark. The room was nice, but the thermostats only seem to be for show. You could adjust the temperature on the thermostat, but the temperature in the room never changed. We booked a junior suite and the living area only had one small wall mounted light near the door. No other lights in the whole room. The buttons on the wall in the bedroom to close the curtains didn't work and no buttons at all for the curtains in the living room, that we could find. The room slept four people, but towels were only provided for three. There were no extra pillows or linens provided for the pull out couch. I paid more than I usually would for the convenience of this property. I would probably not stay at this property again.

Lifetime Marriot member. Staying in executive suite. Staff at hotel lobby restaurant was hostile. Bartender ran me off saying bar seats were reserved for someone else. M-club host was angry to see me as they were cleaning up and didn’t seem to want guest. Overall very unwelcoming. Stay somewhere else; this property is poorly managed.

Was there for the USMC banquet. Very nice venue.

This hotel was really nice, the beds were really comfortable, the rooms were very clean, the food from the downstairs bar restaurant was delicious very pricey for the quality but it was delicious. Parking was very expensive in the lower garage $51 a day, but the Metro ramp to the train was very convenient you just go down the ramp and take the very first right all the way down and then left down the escalator and you will see the machines to buy your card for either a one day or more pass it was $30 for our one day pass for both of us. The hotel was very nice for our conference lots of big rooms for all the meetings lunch and breakfast served was delicious and nice. Coming up from the garage elevator you have to get off at the lobby then take another elevator to your room. The hotel was real convenient to walking to a few different restaurants also there was a mall in behind Costco that was an easy walk. I do wish the hotel had a pool and hot tub for downtime but they do have a gym for those that like to work out. Overall Hotel was nice and clean and convenient for the conference I attended. I only rated it four stars because there was nothing to do on the down time it really needs a pool and hot tub after those meetings you need to relax.

A massive but soulless hotel in dire need of a renovation. Save yourself the trouble and book a neighboring hotel instead. The breakfast is a big disappointment, and "free" Wi-Fi comes with the annoying strings of a loyalty program sign-up—a ridiculous gatekeeping tactic for 2026. Staff helpfulness is a game of Russian roulette, and my luck ran out. Take your chances or look elsewhere!

Quite hotel and close to crystal city station. Breakfast buffet has variety of options.
