Robert's Lafitte

Robert's Lafitte is Galveston's — and by most accounts Texas's — oldest continuously operating gay bar, pouring drinks near the corner of 25th and Avenue Q since 1969. Robert Mainor took it over in 1970 and turned it into an unpretentious island institution that has outlasted hurricanes, shifting neighborhoods and decades of Texas nightlife. It is a come-as-you-are room: cheap drinks, a well-worn dance floor and a crowd that mixes longtime locals with weekenders down from Houston. Drag is the main event, with shows Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, and the bar is a fixture of Pride Galveston every summer, hosting the traditional Sunday pool party. Open daily until 2am.
