The Hotel Zags Portland

A large part of the reason why my stay in Portland was so great was this hotel. The rooms are older, fine, but the location is great and the amenities- the shed to borrow things from (bikes, fishing rods, binoculars), the great outdoor bar/sitting area with firepits, the simple yet enough complementary breakfast- was spectacular. The front desk was helpful and attentive as well.

The stay was decent . But I don’t recommend simply because of the hidden fees. They charged me for amenities that were not available. I had 4 charges on my card and was not aware of all those charges. That’s not what I was told at check in.

The rooms are nice and clean, but a bit small. Friendly staff and cool activities on site. One star deducted for the "breakfast." It was the worst we had on our entire trip.

Thank you for a great stay! The room was comfortable and spacious (we reserved the king suite), the location was good and the staff are very welcoming and accommodating. I love that they’re so pet friendly. They hand out a little canine treat bag that was soooo appreciated. It had everything a pet owner could need on a little overnight including a toy! Lucas, who I feel was a manager or maybe assistant manager stopped and played with my pooch and just loved on him like he was the best thing ever! Thank you to the wonderful staff and thanks from our pooch Whiskey.

We very much enjoyed our stay at this hotel. All the small thoughtful details included in this hotel were spectacular. The rentals, the smores, the games room, the pinball machines, the incredible decor and vibe. It was like staying at a resort. I was shocked reading the negative reviews. I would come back to Portland just to visit this hotel. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Older bldg 5 stories, small old elevators. Front desk personnel very nice and helpful

Awesome experience here! The vibe is fantastic, room was clean all the time, great views. Luka at the recepction desk was absolutly adorable!!

If you're thinking about staying at this hotel, just be prepared to pay for things you never use and were never told about. We parked by street and didn’t use their parking, yet was still charged $40 per night for it. Apparently, just having a vehicle nearby is enough to justify their premium parking fee. Not to mention that these were all charge after we checked out. Didn't even bother mentioning all these during check-out itself. This screams SCAMMERS!! Then there’s the $30-per-night “amenities” charge that wasn’t disclosed anywhere—no mention during booking nor during check-in. We didn’t use any of these mysterious amenities (unless walking a block to an off-site gym counts) that we didn't even use because apparently their 24Hour gym and pool access closes at 10pm. Honestly, after staying at a different hotel, the difference was night and day. Other places had on-site gym and pool included in the amenities no surprise fees, no hidden charges, just straightforward, guest-friendly hospitality. Makes you realize how ridiculous the charges at this hotel really are. Many reviews mention similar hidden fees here, so it’s clear this is an ongoing problem, not a one-off mistake. If you enjoy paying extra for invisible perks and unclear billing, this place might be for you. Otherwise, look elsewhere.
