Provincetown Carnival est l'unique plus grand événement du calendrier gay de la ville — une semaine de soirées à thème, vernissages, événements costumés et festivités de rue qui culmine en un défilé costumé sur Commercial Street, attirant 60 000 personnes dans une ville de 3 000 habitants. Le Carnival se déroule la troisième semaine d'août et existe depuis 1978. Chaque édition a un thème — Hollywood, Super-héros, Royauté, Under the Sea — et les concurrents, costumes et chars en sont des expressions élaborées, de l'ingénieux au spectaculaire. La parade descend Commercial Street d'East End à West End, environ 3 km, avec des spectateurs sur trois ou quatre rangs. La semaine inclut les tea dances officielles au Boatslip, les nuits à thème à l'A-House et au Crown & Anchor, et la multiplication d'énergie propre à 60 000 visiteurs débarqués dans une ville construite pour 3 000. Hébergement à réserver huit mois à l'avance ; tarifs au pic annuel. L'expression la plus pure de ce que Provincetown fait et qu'aucun autre lieu en Amérique ne reproduit.
