Rio de Janeiro has a gay sauna scene spread across the Zona Sul neighborhoods, particularly Copacabana and parts of Ipanema. The venues are typical of the Brazilian sauna format and prices are low in international terms. The beach proximity and the city's general body culture mean there is a consistent local clientele year-round.
What to expect
Rio saunas follow the Brazilian standard: reception, lockers, showers, wet and dry sauna, common rooms, private cubicles, and dark room. Some have outdoor areas or small pools. The better venues are well-maintained and busy; as elsewhere in Brazil, the quality differential between venues is real.
Traffic peaks in the evenings and at night, with a second surge after clubs close on weekend mornings. The general body consciousness of carioca culture does influence the clientele — Rio saunas tend to have a demographic that skews toward the physically active.

Practical notes
Bring ID. Towels are typically provided. Condoms are available at reputable venues. Entry prices are low. Use Uber to get to and from venues — walking alone in Copacabana late at night is not advisable.
