Gay saunas in Medellín: the honest 2026 picture

If you searched sauna gay Medellín or saunas gay en Medellín, here is the short version. Medellín has six men's saunas that we could confirm are operating in 2026, and all six sit within about ten blocks of each other in La Candelaria, the historic Centro, not in El Poblado or Laureles where most visitors stay. The bathhouse is still a normal part of gay life here: entry costs roughly COP 14,000 to 25,000 (a few US dollars), the crowd is overwhelmingly local, and the busiest hours are late afternoon into the evening rather than late night. The scene is good value and friendly, but the Centro after dark and Colombia's well-documented drink-spiking problem mean the safety advice below is not boilerplate. Older guides also list names like Olympo, Hammamm, Spartacus and Club de Tobi; we could not find a live address or a 2025-2026 trace for any of them, so they are not on this page as open venues.

The verified saunas (sauna gay Medellín, Centro / La Candelaria)

Every venue below has a current Google listing with 2025-2026 activity, an address we could place on the map, and a men-only door policy. Prices are in Colombian pesos and change without notice; treat them as a guide, and expect to pay more on weekends and for events. Browse the full list and map in our Medellín sauna directory.

Sauna Club 55

Calle 55 #45-44, La Candelaria. The flagship of the city and the sauna most visitors end up at. It is the cleanest and most modern of the six, with a lobby bar, lockers, Turkish bath, dry sauna, jacuzzis, a video room and dark rooms, plus massage on request. Listed hours are 14:00 to 21:30 every day, with the busiest window around 18:00 from Friday to Sunday; Sunday afternoons draw the youngest, most professional crowd in town. Prices vary by day and by event and are not published online, so check the official Club 55 site or Instagram (@saunaclub55) the same day, or call 322 587 9937. The one recurring complaint is loud bar music; the one recurring compliment is the reception staff. Google rating 4.3 from about 180 reviews. See Sauna Club 55.

Sauna Saint Moritz

Calle 56 #45-72, La Candelaria. The Medellín branch of a small Colombian chain that also runs a well-known sauna in Bogotá's Chapinero. It is a clean, comfortable, mid-sized men-only venue one block north of Club 55, with sauna, Turkish bath and jacuzzi, and it runs themed nights. The chain's site (saintmoritzsaunas.com) is thin on Medellín details, so phone 320 942 2518 or check Instagram for the day's hours; afternoon-to-evening is the pattern at both branches. Google rating 4.4 from about 120 reviews, which makes it the best-reviewed sauna in the Centro after Cruising Fusión. See Sauna Saint Moritz.

Cruising Fusión (Sauna Cruising)

Carrera 45D #57-44, La Candelaria. Rebranded from "Sauna Cruising" to Cruising Fusión and still open in 2026, with a June 2026 Google review calling it the best place in Medellín to meet new people. As the name says, the emphasis is on the cruising areas (maze, cabins, video lounge) more than on heat, although there is a steam room. It has the highest Google rating of the six (4.5 from about 130 reviews) and a young local crowd. Hours and prices are not published; ask at the door before paying, and bring cash. See Cruising Fusión.

El Castillo Sauna

Carrera 45D #59-63, La Candelaria. The budget sauna with the fullest set-up: bar, jacuzzi, a small pool, dry sauna, Turkish steam bath, a cruising maze, a video screening room and a smoking area. The week splits in two. Sunday to Thursday it runs 14:00 to midnight and is relaxed; on Friday and Saturday it stays open until 06:00 and works as the Centro's after-party, which is when it is busiest and when lockers run short. Reviews mention thin towels and uneven service, and the 3.8 Google rating reflects that; it is also where weekend parties and promotions happen. Phone 313 684 9181. See El Castillo Sauna.

Thermas Club

Calle 57 #43-21, La Candelaria. The old-school downtown bathhouse, in business for more than 25 years. Daily 11:00 to 20:00, which makes it the only sauna here that works as a morning stop. Facilities are a Turkish sauna, TV lounges, three private video cabins, a labyrinth and a terrace with a smoking zone and music videos; the steam rooms look dated and reviewers say so. Its website still shows a 2017 price list (COP 14,000 standard, 16,000 on Mondays, 12,000 before 16:00 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 20,000 for two men entering together), but a September 2025 review mentions paying COP 23,000, so budget for the higher figure. Heavy cruising, budget crowd, good value. See Thermas Club.

Sauna Atlanta

Calle 51 (Avenida La Playa) #40-125, second floor, La Candelaria. The smallest and least polished of the six, on the upper floor of a building on La Playa a few blocks east of Parque Berrío. Entry has been COP 15,000; hours Monday to Friday and Sunday 13:00 to 21:00, Saturday 13:00 to 22:00. Inside: dry sauna, steam room, private cabins, a dark area, a TV lounge and a bar; reviewers praise the roomy solarium and the cleanliness and complain about dim lighting, the lack of a jacuzzi, early closing and indifferent staff. Working-class local crowd and a strong cruising scene. Phone (604) 489 5054. See Sauna Atlanta.

Names you will see elsewhere that we do not list

    • Sauna Medellín Premium (El Poblado) turned out to be a duplicate Google listing of Club 55 and has been removed. There is no men's gay sauna in El Poblado as of 2026; the Poblado "spas" with steam rooms are mixed wellness businesses.
    • Club de Tobi, Olympo Club, Hammamm, Spartacus, Barbacoas appear in older English-language guides, often with no street address. We found no working address, listing or review for any of them in 2025-2026. If you know one is open, use the report form at the bottom of this page.
    • La Caverna is flagged by other guides for drugs, prostitution and police attention. We do not recommend it.

Cruise clubs and sex clubs (not saunas)

If you want a dark room rather than a steam room, Medellín has dedicated cruise clubs, most of them in Laureles rather than the Centro:

    • Sillón Rojo Club, a men-only cruise and sex club on Avenida 33 with dark room and video areas.
    • Vachu Bar, a mixed gay/bi cruise bar with private cabins, a sling and fetish nights.
    • Men's Club, a men-only club listed in our cruising category.

All the Centro saunas above, and Cruising Fusión in particular, also have dedicated cruising areas, so you do not need a separate club for that. For outdoor spots and the citywide picture see cruising in Medellín and the gay cruising map.

    When to go

    • Weekday afternoons are quiet and cheap: Thermas opens at 11:00, Atlanta at 13:00, the rest at 14:00. Tuesday and Wednesday early-bird rates at Thermas are the lowest entry in the city.
    • 18:00 to 21:00, Friday to Sunday is peak at Club 55 and Saint Moritz. Both close by 21:30, so they are a pre-dinner or pre-club stop, not an after-party.
    • Sunday afternoon at Club 55 is the social session of the week.
    • After 02:00 on Friday and Saturday only El Castillo is open (until 06:00). This is where the Centro bar crowd ends up.
    • Pride week (the Marcha de la Ciudadanía LGBTIQ+, usually late June or early July; next dates not announced yet) fills every sauna; see Medellín Pride.
    • Puentes festivos (long weekends, roughly 18 a year in Colombia) bring visitors from Bogotá and Cali and make Saturday nights noticeably busier.

Getting there and around at night

All six saunas are in a compact rectangle between Calle 51 (La Playa) and Calle 59, and Carrera 43 and Carrera 46, in La Candelaria. By day this is the busy commercial heart of the city, with Metro stations Prado (Line A) and Parque Berrío a short walk away, and daytime arrival on foot or by Metro is fine. After about 19:00 the streets empty, and the blocks around Carrera 45D and Calle 57 are where most robbery reports come from. The rule locals follow: ride-hail (Uber, DiDi, Cabify or inDrive all work in Medellín) door to door, and ask the sauna to call a car when you leave. From El Poblado the ride is 15 to 25 minutes and costs roughly COP 15,000 to 25,000; from Laureles about the same. The Metro closes around 23:00 (22:00 on Sundays), so the late El Castillo session means a car home regardless.

    Apps and the scopolamine problem

Grindr and Tinder are heavily used in Medellín and are the main way locals and visitors connect outside venues. They are also the main vector for the city's best-documented crime against tourists: drugging with scopolamine (burundanga) or benzodiazepines followed by robbery. Colombian press reported fresh cases through 2025: three Puerto Rican tourists drugged and robbed in a rented apartment after an app date in July 2025, repeated incidents around Parque Lleras in August 2025, the arrest of several gangs who used dating apps to lure foreigners, and a death in Itagüí in October 2025. The US Embassy has gone as far as advising its citizens not to use dating apps in Colombia at all.

You do not need to go that far, but do this: meet first in a public place or in a sauna, not in your apartment; never accept a drink, sweet or cigarette you did not see prepared; do not go home with someone who insists on buying the drinks; and if a profile pushes hard for your address, block it. Inside a sauna the risk is much lower than on an app date, which is one more reason the bathhouses remain popular here.

    The law in Colombia

Same-sex relations are legal, same-sex marriage has been legal since the 2016 Constitutional Court ruling, joint adoption is permitted and anti-discrimination law covers employment and services, which puts Colombia among Latin America's most progressive countries on paper. Gay saunas and cruise clubs operate openly as licensed businesses; you will not have a legal problem for visiting one. Public sex, including in parks, remains an offence, and police do sweep the Centro. Prostitution itself is not illegal in Colombia but is confined to designated tolerance zones; paying for sex with anyone under 18 is a serious crime that is actively prosecuted against foreigners, and a sauna is not a place to negotiate anything. Attitudes outside the big cities are conservative and anti-LGBTQ+ violence is high nationally, so discretion on the street is still advised.

    Health: testing, PrEP and emergencies

Medellín's Alcaldía runs free, confidential rapid HIV and syphilis testing; in 2025 it reported more than 6,000 free HIV tests, with a fixed testing point at the city's Gerencia de Diversidades and mobile drives aimed at men who have sex with men and trans women. Uninsured visitors and migrants are referred to Metrosalud, the public network. PrEP is covered by Colombian health insurers (EPS) by law, which helps residents; visitors should bring their own supply and a copy of the prescription, since pharmacies do not sell PrEP over the counter. Profamilia Medellín offers paid testing, PEP consultations and sexual-health services to non-residents. For urgent care, the Clínica Las Américas, Clínica El Rosario and Hospital Pablo Tobón Uribe all have 24-hour emergency rooms used by foreigners; call 123 for police, fire or ambulance. Condoms are provided in some saunas but not all; bring your own and lube.

    Safety and etiquette

    • Door to door by car, every time, after dark in the Centro. This is the single most important rule.
    • "No dar papaya." Carry only the cash you need (entry plus a drink plus the ride), one card, your phone and an ID copy. Leave the passport, watch and second phone at the hotel.
    • Lockers and valuables. Use the locker, keep the key on your wrist and do not leave a phone in a cabin. Theft inside saunas is rare but happens on crowded nights at El Castillo.
    • Drinks. The sauna bars are safe; the risk is what you accept from strangers. Watch your drink being poured.
    • Consent. A clear no is respected in every venue above; staff will remove anyone who does not. Touch is invited with eye contact, not grabbed.
    • Towel rules. Towel around the waist in common areas, bare feet or flip-flops, no phones out in the wet or dark areas.
    • Money. Cash in pesos. Card readers exist at Club 55 and Saint Moritz but are unreliable elsewhere. Tip the massage therapist, not the door.
    • Language. Spanish only at most doors. "¿Cuánto es la entrada?" (how much is entry), "¿Hasta qué hora?" (until what time) and "¿Hay promoción hoy?" (any deal today) cover most of it.
    • Sex work. Some men inside the cheaper saunas will propose a paid arrangement. It is not illegal in itself, but it is the setting in which most sauna-related robberies and drugging incidents start. Decline politely.

Nearby alternatives

If the Centro saunas are not your thing, the bars and clubs in El Poblado and Laureles are where the social scene lives: Industry Medellín, Purple Club, Donde Aquellos, Bar Chiquita and Querida Bar all have regular queer nights; see gay bars in Medellín. For a hotel close to the action with a pool and no questions, see gay-friendly hotels in Medellín. If you are moving on, Bogotá's Chapinero has the country's biggest sauna scene, including the original Saint Moritz, and Cali has a smaller cluster downtown. Within the metro area, Envigado, Itagüí and Bello have no men's saunas that we can confirm.

Keep this page honest

We re-checked every listing on this page in November 2026 against Google, the venues' own sites and local press. Saunas in the Centro change hours and prices often and sometimes close with no announcement. If you find a door shut, a price that is wrong, a new sauna, or a name here that no longer exists, use the correction form on this page or the venue's own page, and tell us the date you visited. Reports with a photo of the door or price board get applied fastest.
