Medellín Pride — Marcha de la Ciudadanía LGBTIQ+

Medellín's LGBTIQ+ march is the closing act of Pride month in Colombia's second city, and it says a lot about how much the place has changed. A city once known for violence now has one of Latin America's busiest gay scenes, and the city government backs Pride openly: the march sits at the end of a programme that includes the Festival Antioquia Vive Diversa and the Love Pride Medellín party circuit. Colombia has had marriage equality since 2016, but trans people still face real violence, and that gives the march its protest edge alongside the party.

The march gathers on Calle Barbacoas in the city centre in the early afternoon and moves through the main streets of downtown to Parque de las Luces, finishing in the early evening. It is free and open to anyone. Expect sound trucks, drag, collectives from the comunas, trans and nonbinary blocs and a lot of families. The nightlife runs before and after it: the clubs and bars around Parque Lleras in El Poblado and along La 70 in Laureles host their biggest nights of the year that weekend, mostly with cover charges or advance tickets.
