The Kenwood Series", by Anthony Caro at Templon

Ten sculptures combining stoneware, stone, and steel, rarely exhibited outside the UK, arrive in Paris to inaugurate the 2026-2027 season at Templon with "The Kenwood Series" (2003-2004), one of the most relevant collections from Anthony Caro's late production. A former student of Henry Moore and influenced by David Smith and critic Clement Greenberg, the British sculptor was responsible in the 1960s for removing sculpture from the pedestal and supporting it directly on the ground, redefining the relationship between artwork, space, and spectator. The series was born from Caro's collaboration with German ceramist Hans Spinner, near Grasse in the South of France, in 2003, when stoneware began to dialogue with the steel that was already a trademark of his sculptural language. The title refers to Kenwood House in London, where the artist exhibited in the 1990s — an experience that led him to rethink the relationship between sculpture, architecture, and the exhibition space. At the center of the exhibition is "Witness" (2003-2004), a monumental work measuring 2.80 by 2.20 meters that seems to emerge from the ground itself; according to the artist, the piece "speaks to you in a direct, individual way" — inviting the public to surround it and experience it bodily, with scale, light, and the surrounding space functioning as part of the work.
