Hotel la Estacion
Visitors praise Hotel la Estacion for its excellent location near the main street and the dedicated, friendly service from staff like Xiaolin. However, some guests noted issues with the bathrooms and beds not being very comfortable, and there were reports of unexpected surcharges for credit card payments.

This place is the best I've found. It's very well located, reasonably priced for the surroundings, and the manager, Xiaolin, exceeded all expectations. She takes care of everything and guides you through your stay. Thank you.
We stayed two nights at Estacion Lodge and were very comfortable. Our host, Xiaolin, is a delightful person and very attentive. She responds to any WhatsApp message immediately. I don't know where she gets so much energy! There's a self-service area with 24-hour tea, coffee, juice, cookies, herbal infusions, milk, yogurt, fruit, and cereal. The rooms are very clean and cheerfully decorated! It's just 3 minutes from Caracoll Street, the busiest street in town, and parking is included on the property.
The guesthouse's location is excellent, as it's very close to Caracoles Street, but not in the middle of the hustle and bustle. Furthermore, the rooms are very clean and the owner is always available on WhatsApp. Before arriving at the guesthouse, I had booked two tours with the owner: an astronomical tour and a horseback ride through Devil's Valley. The astronomical tour went smoothly and as expected. The same, however, cannot be said of the horseback ride. The service provider hired by the guesthouse appeared to be drunk and made several inappropriate jokes to my husband, as he was afraid to ride a horse for the first time. In addition, there wasn't a proper saddle, but rather piles of saddle pads tied together with ropes. All of this contributed to my husband deciding not to do the tour. When all this was reported to the guesthouse owner, instead of refunding the money paid, she insisted we do the tour with another service provider, despite my husband's discomfort. Another aspect we didn't like was the "breakfast," which seemed to be a jumble of leftover food from guests, covered in dust. Terrible and with no options. From the photos, it looks organized and with some variety of food, but in reality, there are several containers of biscuits, some fruit (if you arrive early), cans of instant coffee, and bread.
We booked this place based solely on the photos, as there were no quality ratings or criteria. Everything looked well presented. Upon arrival, we were asked if we wanted to pay in cash or by credit card. We chose credit card because we didn't have any cash on us. We were then informed that a 19% surcharge would be added to the bill for card payments. I consider this a hidden fee, especially since credit card companies prohibit this type of practice, and the actual fee is obviously not 19%. This situation made us feel ripped off from the moment we arrived and made us feel unsafe. Later, during our tour of the property, we were surprised by several things: the presence of numerous storage areas throughout the complex, including in the dining room (visible in the attached photos), as well as the mismatched bedding and towels, giving the impression that they had been purchased from a warehouse. We specifically requested a cancellation of our stay, which was refused. We then requested at least a cancellation of the second night, which was also refused, citing Booking.com. Yet, all the hotels we booked during our month-long stay offered a free cancellation option. I now understand why this option isn't offered by your hotel: too many guests have likely canceled upon arrival in the past. Finally, we left and booked another hotel, Cumbres, where we paid double the price (approximately $1,000), by credit card, with no hidden fees, for an experience at least five times better than yours. 👉 I highly recommend the Cumbres hotel.
The Good - Interesting breakfast format. Everything is in the fridge (yogurt, ham, cheese, milk), as well as coffee, tea, unlimited bread, a dozen cookies, avocado, and much more. Access is practically all day. - Pool - Parking The Bad - You sleep like you're in a tent, with the noise of passing cars all night long. - The roof creaks all night, apparently due to the temperature change. - The stationary air conditioner doesn't work; after two days of heroic reminders, they installed a portable one. Conclusion My impression is mixed. The hostel is made of cheap plastic panels, and they creak with temperature changes. If you want to ruin your sleep before a busy excursion, this is the place for you. Noise is guaranteed all night long. And a tip for the owner: - The air conditioner's functionality is checked before the guest checks in. - Spend a little money on soundproofing the rooms.
