Bastión Luxury Hotel

Returning to Cartagena after so long and staying at Bastión Luxury Hotel was like rediscovering the city's magic. The hotel feels like an oasis in the heart of the Historic Center: elegant, tranquil, and incredibly inviting. The colonial architecture, the terrace, and the pool make it all seem like something out of a movie. And the food was on another level. The breakfasts and every detail felt fresh, delicious, and meticulously prepared, as if each dish were also part of the experience. It's definitely not just a place to stay, but a place that makes the trip even more special.

We had an amazing stay at Bastión Luxury Hotel. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel genuinely welcomed — always smiling, warm, attentive, and clearly committed to making every guest feel cared for. Every request was handled within minutes, and their level of attentiveness truly stood out throughout our stay. The food was absolutely incredible. Breakfast was extremely diversified with so many high-quality options, and we also had the “Experiencia” dinner curated by their chef, which was honestly some of the best food we’ve had. Every course was beautifully presented and full of flavor — a truly memorable dining experience. The hotel has a calm, luxurious atmosphere that makes it easy to fully relax and enjoy Cartagena. What impressed us most was how much the staff went above and beyond to make our experience special. Their hospitality felt sincere and personal, and it made all the difference. A special thank you to Paola, Alvaro, Merlis, and Marlon for making our stay extra special with their kindness and exceptional service. We will definitely come back and highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Cartagena.

The staff really try, which is appreciated. It’s a good location/walkable. But this hotel is not at all “luxury” - by any standards. It’s in need of a major renovation. We paid for an upgraded room, which was apparently in the basement. Crazy to me that the nicer rooms they put in a basement, but I could get past that except that It smelled absolutely terrible as soon as we walked in. They clearly have a mold issue but aren’t dealing with it (everything is damp, they even had fans pointed at previous leaks in the ceilings in the hallways). Our clothes smelled terrible from being in that room even days after. You’ll notice other reviews commenting on the smell. The included breakfast was also basically inedible. The pool bar didn’t have half the drinks listed on their menu. Hotel is Not at all worth the money. Go elsewhere.

The best hotel in the walled city. A gem. Great boutique hotel and the best staff who always look after you.

Very pleasant stay. It is calm in the middle of the city, the service is outstanding. The included breakfast is amazing and has menu and buffet options. The terace is beautiful and offers a nice view on the sundowner. The only downside is that the pool is only 1,20m and not deeper. The rooms are clean, spacious, quiet and everything fits western standards for a 4-star hotel. I highly recommend staying here, when visiting Cartagena.

We loved staying at Bastion Luxury hotel. Its a beautiful hotel with historic charm with a modern touch. From the delicious food, drinks to room comfort, friendly staff, everything was top notch. Location couldn't be any better. Only a few minutes from all the big landmarks, shops, restaurants, cafes. Highly recommended.

Excellent!!! A delicious breakfast that satisfied all our cravings, plus very friendly service. Thank you, Gina and team! We especially enjoyed the rooftop terrace, with its bar, service, and pool, which offers magnificent views of the old town. We also recommend eating at El Gobernador restaurant. All in all, a superb hotel that deserves its five stars.

We loved the location of Bastion Hotel and all of its features. Staff was friendly, the space is beautiful, breakfast spread was divine each morning and the rooftop bar/pool was our favorite feature. The elegance of the new updates to an older space made this a special stay for us in Cartagena.

The other reviews you may have read are correct. This is in a great location, quiet enough where you won’t hear much at night, at least for us who are on a higher floor toward the back of the hotel. The staff are very pleasant and helpful and the front desk is always happy to help. The concierge, especially Jhordan, was always a pleasure and very helpful when we had questions or needed to make any reservations and the breakfast buffet has a plethora of options as well. We are extremely happy we chose to stay in the Bastion and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who plans to make a visit to Cartagena!
