Commons Inn | Halifax Motel

Absolutely the worst experience I have ever had in my life in the hospitality sector. No exaggeration! Do not go near this place! This building should be condemned. The pictures are not at all what the location looks like. I expect they were taken decades ago. The building is in a serious state of disrepair, filthy, and infested with mice. Upon arrival the front desk informed me they are undergoing “renovations”. No - common areas were demolished and covered in dirt and appeared to be that way for a very long time. We were forced to leave in the middle of the night as mice were going through our things (I have pictures). The walls were paper thin and activities in the building were questionable which made us worry for our safety. We left feeling dirty, disgusted, and exploited. When I approached the front desk to complain about the issues they would not comply with my request to refund our stay and refused to provide the managers contact information. On the wall was a business license that expired on 2019. I submitted the complaint to Expedia who contacted Commons Inn. They again refused to issue a refund. I would like to thank Expedia for taking accountability and issuing us a full refund on their behalf given the terrible service and experience. I hope to see The Commons Inn removed as a supplier on Expedia’s site so others to not get fooled by this false advertisement that is grossly over priced for the quality of service and safety issues. There were several Consumer Rights violations under the Nova Scotia Consumer Protection Act including: * when you buy something based on a description, you’ll receive something that matches that description * when you buy something based on seeing a sample, the product you receive will match the sample in quality * the goods are in good quality to be sold, unless the seller has listed any defects * the services will be performed in a skillful and workmanlike way I will be filing a complaint with the Nova Scotia Business Commission regarding this matter. This establishment should be shut down.

I know this is going to sound unbelievable, but I assure you I'm not exaggerating. When we checked in and found our room, the first thing we did was look for the view—only to discover there wasn't one. Instead of a window, there was a wall. The curtains were literally tacked to the wall to create the illusion of a window, but there was no actual window in the room. Concerned that this couldn't possibly meet fire safety standards, we went to the front desk and requested a room change. We were told the hotel was fully booked. We then asked for compensation for being placed in what appeared to be an illegal room and were told there would be none—we could either stay or check out. After 45 minutes of back and forth, the front desk employee finally agreed to refund the two nights we would be staying in that room and move us to a different room for our remaining two nights. Thinking the issue was resolved, he told us to get some rest and that he would take care of everything. Before leaving, I asked for an email or some form of written confirmation regarding the refund so we wouldn't have to start the entire process over again with a different employee the next day. He went into the back office and returned a few minutes later, suddenly telling us there would be no refund after all. At that point, the overnight staff member arrived and seemed just as confused by the situation as we were. We asked to speak with a manager and were told no. The employee we had been dealing with then began doing paperwork and essentially ignored us, refusing to answer our questions. By now, more than two hours had passed. At the two-and-a-half-hour mark, we were informed that the owner had denied the refund. We were told we could either check out if we didn't feel safe or move to a room with only one bed. This was after being repeatedly told for over two hours that the hotel was completely full. Even then, there was no offer of compensation for being moved to a downgraded room. To make matters worse, our room also had no hot water and no heat. The only person who showed any level of professionalism or customer service was the overnight staff member, who walked into this mess and treated us with kindness and respect. Everyone else involved—from staff to management and ownership—handled the situation terribly. The lack of communication, accountability, and basic customer service was astonishing

I ordered a standard room and got an economy room. Wifi was good but no tv service beyond what cast from my phone. No services and parking is not really good. Still renovation work being done but tolerable. The room is a very tight fit, but a comfy bed so I slept well. Quiet area, with good selection of amenities around. Pub, deli, Italian Cafe and a convince store close by. If the rooms were better this hotel would be very good

If you are ready to spend sleepless nights than you ahead a book it. Because you will be fighting with mice that decided to have a party in your garbage bin at 2 AM. You will literally hear their little paws running around your bed at night. Honestly, one the worst experience I’ve ever had so far.

No TV. The room was very small and we needed the air conditioner on all night to sleep.

This is a low price hotel with modern rooms. In Halifax downtown a calm area. Next by is the Café Byron wich is a lovely place, with cozy atmosphere, nice coffee and breakfast from 7am. The service of the hotel is great. 24 hours deskservice. I got provided with a phone charger cause my european one didnt fit. I got provided with a kettle, cause i wanted to make tea by my own in the room. The matras was in good shape, everything was tidy, the bathroom fine. So i will defenitely recommend and come again.. So friendly.

This Inn looks nothing like the pictures. The only parking is on the street which is not ideal. The door that we went in was nowhere near the front desk, so anyone can just stroll in off the street. The inn is very outdated and the rooms are SO SMALL, and then to top it off the tv didn’t even work. We stayed for 40 minutes then checked out. The bed was comfortable for the 20 minutes I sat on it but that is the ONLY good thing I have to say about it

Just wow.. Bed bugs, bloody or makeup stained mattress, zero cleaning, shower smelled like body odour, weird guy at the front desk who when asked for a refund and receipt didn't want to give the proper receipts for the refund, Absolutely brutal. I've stayed at nicer hostels. I have a feeling they try to deny refunds to people less assertive. Please just don't go there if you can. The low price isn't worth it. I feel like I have lice from being in the building.

Unless you sleep like the dead do not recommend. Heard the person above is walking and dragging things across the floor most of the night. Also loud music and horrible singing from 1:30-4:00 am. Bathroom walls were disgustingly dirty. Will not be back.

Not parking space, mattress was wet. No breakfast, dirty and old hotel. Over priced,I will never visit here again. Can’t wait to check out in 2 hrs and get the hell out of here. No bottle water within the hotel ca. you imagine that?

The room was clean and the staff were friendly and helpful. The AC and the tv didn't work but luckily we brought our laptop to watch movies on just in case. This hotel is affordable and close to downtown. A great option if you're just looking for a place to sleep!

I stayed at this hotel last week and found it to be excellent value for money. The rooms were clean and hygienic, and the stay was comfortable overall. Although there are no good restaurants or grocery shops nearby to buy essentials like water, the hotel itself provides a pleasant and comfortable experience. The staff were very cooperative and helpful. I would recommend this hotel as an economical option for travelers.
