Lord Nelson
Visitors frequently praise the Lord Nelson's excellent location, friendly and helpful staff, and comfortable, clean rooms, often noting its historical charm. The hotel is very well located, close to all the attractions. The old port, gardens, museums, and casino are all within walking distance.
I love luxury hotels, but I also like history and feel guilty if I’m not having an authentic local experience. In most of the country the solution is Fairmont, but in Halifax it is LN. I spent six nights in May (housekeeping was excellent) and this was the second best value I’ve ever had at a nice hotel (my best was snagging the Turret One Bedroom at Banff Springs for $540/night in 2021). I have also lived in Halifax, and the LN location is a good balance between downtown and the quaint residential neighbourhoods, in a shopping/dining/bar hotspot. Despite being in a dining hotspot, I ate three times at the hotel restaurant (the Arms) because it was great food and service (I had eaten there previously without staying at the hotel). Earlier in the trip we stayed at a comparable room at the Harbourfront Marriott (600 sq ft suite) and that was also nice, but it cost 2.5x as much and the service was not as good. LN has a small gym and if you want a larger gym or a pool/hot tub they give you a pass to the YMCA next door (the YMCA pass unfortunately does not get you steam room or sauna access, which is reserved for members). Parking is easy, although a valet option would be nice. I called the hotel several times to discuss my reservation and every time they answered and were very helpful at getting me in the perfect room (I did not have that experience at the Westin, so I did not stay at the Westin). In general, I prefer to stay in a different hotel every time, but I will be back to Lord Nelson!
Very nice room, good service and good food.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was super nice, very comfortable. The food in the Arms was excellent. We enjoyed visiting with bell hop that said he had been working there for 38 years. It was so convenient to have our car in the car park under the hotel. Everything was so clean. They even pressure wash the sidewalks outside!
