Fantastic location, hospitality, service, and comfortable rooms. I read the reviews about the hotel being outdated - however my room is similar to an old Fairmont hotel room; outdated, but upscale and clean. The elevators are old - however, I was on the 9th floor and asked to move to a lower floor so I could walk the stairs instead. Within 10 minutes of this request, Danielle from the front desk came to my room and helped me move my luggage to another room on a lower floor. Fabulous hospitality! I would recommend and stay again.

Beautiful hotel gives you the sense of how hotels were years ago and it doesn't disappoint. Front desk Simar was very helpful, extremely happy and made you feel like you made the right choice of hotels. Classic. My go to the next time I'm in Halifax.

It's an hôtel with good staf and the rooms are very good and cumfortable. The breakfast was superbs with a lot of varieties.

It's a very old hotel with a lot of history. They charge for parking and it's very expensive per night. They have Nespresso in the room. No fans in the bathrooms, outdated plugs and A/C & thermostats. Beds were comfy. Walls are thin. No breakfast. The vibe is The Shinning.

Within walking distance of downtown Halifax. Numerous pubs and attractions are in the immediate vicinity of the hotel. The rooms are spacious. Fresh coffee, tea, and water are provided daily.

They won't extend check out and the rooms are cramped

Great hotel, incredible service!

The housekeepers we had during our time were excellent and very attentive. The room service was delivered quickly and questions to the front desk were answered. It is in a good location, close to great restaurant and the public gardens. Unfortunately the room had some glaring issues. The shower was very disappointing, low water pressure and leaking out the side. There was only one hook in the bathroom beside the shower, none near the sink and vanity. Having a suite I had assumed we would get robes yet we did not. The mouthwash provided also tasted awful and all the soaps had a very intense, not pleasant scent. The parking was atrocious. No elevator to the second level and only one elevator went fully to the first level. We had to carry our luggage down multiple stairs after selecting the basement level in the elevator. On top of that the sensors in the parking garage are very finicky, meaning we were unable to park.

The hotel is located in a stunning spot and despite the nice reviews, I had a horrible stay. I could not reasonably access wifi during my entire stay, and it took the staff 2 days to then finally offer me another room, but my work had already been completed. The parking was a mess, and they waived the costs, but we spent a total of 24 minutes waiting for the gates to open or go into the right spot. Many times the correct gate didn't lift and we either had to call the guest or wait until the doorman finally clued in that we were stuck. The doormen did not help once with luggage, opening a door, but was always chatting with customers 10-15 feet away, but almost always clueless when there was an issue. The staff never once apologized for the inconvenience, just simply saying they would note it. We tried to eat and ordered room service thinking we were staying at a hotel that people plan to visit, so the kitchen must be good. We ordered the shepherd's pie and it was the worst slop of food I have tasted in some time. We tried to add salt, pepper or even hot sauce, but alas, nothing. We ordered their 'bread' thinking we would be getting a baguette, maybe some dinner rolls or some artisan bread, but we literally got toast, which was burnt instead. We were given some breakfast vouchers, but my goodness, it was the second worst meal of the our trip after the shepherd's pie. We both ordered avocado toast and it was lacking taste, salt and just really any soul. There was no seasoning on the avocado, and overall, it fell flat. The coffee or latte was a disaster and not worth the time, so we left it. I have a physical disability and needed help with my bags, but they never offered or intimated it could happen. I flagged it to them, the manager noted it down, and they called me the night before, and on the day of after agreeing that someone would arrive at 11:45, no one came. I also couldn't access the P1 for a full day, so I had to repeatedly take stairs. When we flagged it to them, we didn't get an apology, despite my challenges with walking. Overall, there was a lack of interest given to us, staff speaking down or snarking at me for bringing up the wifi concerns, and it felt like there was overall a lack of care to the challenges we had. The food is a hard pass, the service is not great, the hotel room was nice and I think the location is solid if you prefer not to stay on the water, but there is a lot that went wrong. This was the worst stay I've had in a few years and it really put a black eye over our trip. I work with clients that cumulatively travel through Halifax 25 days of the year and I don't think I would send any business here. Given how awful the stay was and their admitted faults, we got two breakfast vouchers and parking covered (while we couldn't access the parking garage).

This place is the best place to stay in Halifax - for location, for historical importance, and for its staff!
