Hôtel Universel Québec Sainte-Foy

Not impressed. Carpets in the hallway and walls look 100 years old, stained and messy. Someone was looking for me and asked at the front desk, and the front desk gave them my room number. Terrible security/privacy. I DO NOT recommend this hotel.

Damp room, air conditioning not working, unpleasant staff

One of the worst hotels I've ever stayed in. The spa was closed. There was an unpleasant smell in the hallways. The beds were very hard. The office chair was broken. There were ketchup stains on the ceiling. The soundproofing was terrible for a hotel. You could hear absolutely everything.

The hotel is outdated, and the spa and sauna area is closed; this isn't mentioned when booking. I'm very disappointed.

A lovely place to unwind for a night. We needed this little break and the place was perfect. We enjoyed the small terrace just past the reception desk, where we took some sparkling wine and chips. The sun shines brightly there in the late afternoon. We had a room with a balcony overlooking the atrium. The room was modern with laminate flooring and everything was clean. A very pleasant stay.

The hotel was clean and the staff very professional. Unfortunately, the extremely firm mattress caused me significant pain, and the lack of automatic gate openers near the accessible parking spaces made navigating with a walker and luggage very difficult. With a few improvements in comfort and accessibility, the experience would be considerably better.

My first experience at the Hotel Universel. I purchased a relaxation package with a couples massage for my partner's birthday for $750 from the package company. It included a one-night stay in a deluxe room, a massage for both of us, a bottle of wine, a small gift, and a voucher for two lunches at the hotel's Boston Pizza. Upon arrival, the receptionist, who claimed to be the hotel manager, called me an imposter. He said my package was a scam and didn't exist. He then told me I was in the wrong place, even after I presented my ticket and hotel confirmation. A call was made to the hotel owner to confirm the validity of the package. We finally got our room after several minutes of persistence and insults from the receptionist, all in front of other hotel guests. It was very embarrassing. When I wanted my bottle of wine, the clerk replied, "And I bet you want two glasses with that." His tone was contemptuous and condescending. The next morning, we went to Boston Pizza for breakfast as planned. The server reminded us twice, even before we ordered, that the tip wasn't included in the breakfast package. I told the hotel owner about my experience, and she offered me a $200 refund. My partner and I wanted a relaxing, all-inclusive getaway; it was the complete opposite. Stressful from beginning to end. Second experience at the hotel. We were in the area, and my daughter wanted a pool. It was our only remaining option, so we decided to give it a second chance. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed again. The welcome was better, but the night was terrible. The toilet was running and noisy, the air conditioning in the room wasn't working, the walls were paper-thin, and we could hear every conversation in the next room. We seriously felt like we were in their room. The next morning, after managing to sleep for two hours, the toilet clogged. We wanted to use the pool, but it was impossible. There were barely seven guests in the water; there was no room left. Plus, half the swimming area was under renovation. We received an email mentioning renovations just one day before our arrival. $250 for two hours of sleep, no pool, a clogged toilet, and filthy sheets full of hair and stains. Never again, Hotel Universel!
