Drunken Monkey

Went here both nights I was in Manuel Antonio because it's basically the only gay bar in town. There's a cover charge that varies depending on the day. The staff are nice, but the music can be mixed depending on the day as well. One night it was mostly EDM, and the other night it was Top 40 Pop songs. The drinks are rather expensive and the cover doesn't include open bar. If you need a place to drink, listen to music and potentially meet new people, this is a place to go.

Absolutely awful. Ridiculous cover for Costa Rica and horrible music. They were playing tacky music you would hear at a bad American wedding. Think YMCA and cha cha slide. The bouncer told us it’s “Latin night” and charged $10 each. Definitely not Latin night… We returned after 11:30pm and it was better but still not wonderful.

I went to this club to go dancing by myself on a trip with my family. I was wearing a long skirt and stepped on it tripping. I touched someone next to me to balance myself. I got yelled at and accused of trying to steal. Then a bouncer came and yelled at me and took my purse from me. I told them they could look through it to prove that I had not taken anything that was not mine. The purse was given back to me with all of my cash taken, and my iPhone stolen from the people that work at this establishment, I came back the next day I asked for my phone. They said they had cleaned the whole place and they hadn’t found anything. Now I have been told that my iPhone is in the Lost and Found and that I need to give them the password to my phone so they can unlock it to prove it is mine. There is no way that I would give them the password to my phone when I have private information on my iPhone. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE IF YOU ARE A SINGLE WOMAN. I reported my phone stolen and contacted the local authorities.

It's the best place in Manuel Antonio for a night out, a safe environment for tourists and locals alike. The service is five-star; all the staff are always smiling. If you're in Manuel Antonio, this is definitely the place to be. Fun and safety in one place.

That's the only gay bar/club in the area, so still good that it exists. But, indeed, music is so loud that it's impossible to talk, DJ's taste of music to play and a choice of putting reggaeton vids on a big screen at the bar are very very questionable. On Friday's night it was somewhat crowded: around 20-25 people, mostly girls and gay guys.

Cute gay club with amazing staff! The drinks are cheap and strong. Cheapest drinks we’ve had in Costa Rica and with good well liquor. Thursday’s are karaoke night. Also - make sure that you don’t get it confused with the ape bar upstairs. Most of the bad reviews are of that bar (which is a straight bar) NOT Drunken Monkey. They don’t sell food for example and like half the reviews mention food lol. You’ll want to enter down the ramp, there are no stairs.

It's ok. Not many options in MA. So if you want to go out in Manuel Antonio this is it. Depends on who happens to decide to go to the club on any particular night, mostly tourists with a few locals. There's an entry fee so it's a crap shoot if you're going to get your money's worth until you go in.

We got there at 9ish and realized we were way old for this spot. Bartender was super nice and served us anyway without a cover. Kind of a low end dance club vibe.

REVIEWS ARE MIXED UP. There is a strsight bar upstairs called Ape. And its not the same. U can see some reviews here that dont make sense talking about strsight guys, fights, cover charge, and mean staff. The gay bar "drunken monkey" is DOWNSTAIRS people are writing these bad reviews about the place upstairs. DM doesnt sell food. Place is Nice and cold, cool lights decent music club vibe, drinks are $8 to $15usd. As some have said don't come early if youre looking to party its 9pm Thursday and nobody is here. Few in and out but I was told by others and comment that the crowd here is a late one.

All rather random

Unique menu, excellent quality food. The staff and chef are top notch! Welcoming atmosphere. If you want to go to a different restaurant, I highly recommend it.

Very cool small nightclub. Mostly a gay club which usually means great vibes and fun party, did not disappoint. Went for a new years eve and the party was really fun. Cover charge is cash only but the bar inside accepts card payments, service is quick and prices more than reasonable by Manuel Antonio standards. Only thing that could be significantly improved is the sound system. A sound engineer should have a look, tune the subs and overall levels for more enjoyable club experience. DJs were actually pretty good but their skill would have benefitted from better sound.
