We recently stayed two nights at the Carmel River Inn & Cottages - in a studio cottage. It was fabulous! The staff was very accommodating and welcomed our furry pets with treats. The location is excellent - access to Carmel by the Sea, Monterey, and Big Sur are quick and easy. We had a wonderful stay and will return on future trips to the area.

Extremely adorable place to stay. I had the chance to stay in two places Motel rooms are updated and extremely cute, they overlook a small river and you can hear crickets and frogs at night, birds in the morning. Because this hotel is historic, I would encourage guests sensitive to sounds to upgrade to a cottage as the walls are quite thin. I had a chance to look at all of the types of cottages. Of course, the historic have the most charm. Landscaping is insanely beautiful, you have to see it. The “glamping” cottages are also extremely cute, feels like a safari tent. The newer “basic” cabins are modern and have everything you need. Front desk staff is extremely helpful and kind. They really made me feel at home. This location is not within the city of Carmel which I appreciated it. It’s less than 5 minutes away, but will be less busy than if you were within the city itself. To your right is Big Sur and point lobos also less than ten minutes away. These are not luxury, but have way more character than a luxury property. I plan on coming back here as often as I can.

My first ever experience booking a hotel and everything was amazing. Customer service was amazing, and friendly since I arrived. The whole experience was wonderful. The cottages make it feel like a small cute village and feels extremely welcoming and relaxing. 10/10 experience here will definitely come back.

We have stayed at Carmel River Inn the past three years for participating in the Big Sur Marathon. The location is perfect, the rooms are rustic and comfortable, clean, and have basic amenities. We love it.

Incredible hospitality from everyone I interacted with at the front desk. It truly felt like I was staying at a second home. The story book cottages were lovely and the bed was one of the comfiest I’ve ever slept in. The heat for the rooms comes from the gas fireplace and the gardens are so well maintained. I came home past sunset and they had the fire pit lit for me outside of my cottage. I will definitely be back!
