Chateau Merrimack Resort & Spa
Some visitors found the rooms luxurious and elegant, with attentive and friendly staff contributing to a peaceful and welcoming atmosphere. However, many guests reported significant issues, including broken air conditioning, closed amenities like the pool and spa (often undisclosed at booking), and a general feeling that the property is not well-maintained and appears abandoned, leading to disappointing experiences.

We recently stayed at Chateau Merrimack for a family trip and unfortunately had one of the most disappointing hotel experiences we’ve ever had. We paid over $1,200 for our stay, expecting a luxury resort experience, as we had the previous year with Chateau Merrimack. What was not disclosed during booking was that the pool, spa, and both restaurants were closed. Had this been clearly communicated beforehand, we would have chosen a different property. The problems began immediately upon arrival. Our first room had no working TV and no internet. After reporting the issue, they offered to move us to a different room. When we returned later that evening after spending the day with family, we moved rooms, and discovered the room was covered in dead insects and bugs throughout the room, including on the floor, furniture, and lamps. Thousands of bugs. We have photographs documenting the condition. Pregnant and traveling with a toddler, this was completely unacceptable. We were then moved for a third time, this time into a smaller room of a lower category than the one we had paid for. To make matters worse, there was a dead wasp on the floor when we arrived. We were forced to spend the night in a downgraded room despite paying for a premium accommodation. The following day we were moved again into a room comparable to what we originally booked. After four rooms and three forced relocations, all caused by issues with the property, we finally received what we had paid for in the first place. However the rooms bath didn’t work, and no water was provided in the room. Normally these are things that I wouldn’t mention, but after so many issues, you would think these details wouldn’t be overlooked. What was most disappointing was not just the condition of the rooms (completely unsanitary) but the response from management. At no point were we offered assistance moving our luggage despite multiple room changes (we eventually asked for help.) There was no meaningful effort to compensate for the inconvenience, no upgrade, and very little acknowledgment of how disruptive this experience had been. One staff member even admitted to us that the situation was not acceptable. None of the front desk employees nor the manager could help us. We were advised to reach out to upper management, who completely ignored our emails. A “luxury” hotel should not require guests to cycle through four rooms in three days just to receive the accommodations they originally paid for. Between the undisclosed amenity closures, maintenance issues, insect problems, room downgrades, and lack of proactive customer service, this stay fell far below the standards expected at this price point. We rarely leave negative reviews, but future guests deserve to know what they may encounter before booking.
I’m extremely disappointed with my stay at this hotel. The A/C in our room was completely broken, and the temperature stayed around 80 degrees the entire time, making it impossible to sleep comfortably. When we brought the issue to staff, manager Emily was dismissive, showed no empathy, and acted like it wasn’t a big deal. No real solution was offered. On top of that, the professionalism of the staff was lacking. Their appearance and overall attitude did not reflect the level of service you would expect from a hotel. Instead of trying to help, Emily brushed off our concerns and made us feel like we were inconveniencing them. For the amount of money paid 320 for 1 night, this experience was unacceptable. Customer service and guest comfort should be a priority, and unfortunately this hotel failed in both areas. I would not recommend staying here.
★★☆☆☆ I recently stayed at Chateau Merrimack Resort & Spa for my wedding anniversary, so I was really looking forward to a relaxing and special experience. Unfortunately, the stay was disappointing overall. One of the main reasons I booked this hotel was for the pool and hot tub, but both were under construction during our stay. Staff mentioned that it was supposedly listed on the website, but I personally did not see that information anywhere while booking. Had I known ahead of time, I likely would have chosen somewhere else for such an important occasion. I was also expecting breakfast based on the website description, but there was no breakfast available during our stay either. It was frustrating to arrive and find multiple amenities unavailable that were part of the reason for booking. The property itself is nice and the staff were polite, but the experience did not match the expectations set online, especially for a wedding anniversary trip.
Booked a room tonight for tonight. As I’m checking in I’m told the pool and hot tub are closed which was the whole reason I was staying there. The restaurant was closed also so I couldn’t order food. I walk up to my room and it’s 80 degrees. I tell the front desk and they inform me I an unable to turn on ac and unable to open windows. Multiple guest were upset about there being NO AC!! They told me I could cancel but I would have to still have to pay a $50 cancellation fee.. I will never spend another dime here due to terrible business!
Place is not a resort. It looks like haunted abandoned hotel. Unfortunately this place has not been kept up. It use to be a beautiful upscale place.. Not anymore.
Fool's advertising. For 2 hundred and forty nine dollars isn't worth it climbing control is broken. The pool is out of commission. No restaurant and no service.👎 I 😴 with my balcony door open.
USE YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY AND GO ELSEWHERE We walked into the hotel around 9 PM on a Saturday night and the place felt like a ghost town. No energy, nobody around, the entire building looked completely dead. You’d honestly think the hotel was abandoned. I will say one positive thing: the guy working at the front desk when we arrived was incredibly nice and helpful. He did his best to deal with our frustration and was very respectful the whole time. Everything else, unfortunately, was downhill from there. The restaurant and bar were already closed at 9 PM on a Saturday, which is ridiculous. There is literally nothing to do in this hotel either. The pool, sauna, and hot tub were all closed at that time, which completely defeats the point of staying somewhere like this late in the evening. The listing also talks about a spa and sauna, which is completely misleading because there isn’t even a sauna there, and the “spa” only exists if you book a $180 50-minute massage or another overpriced option. If you were hoping to relax late at night, forget it. Then we checked out the gym, which was honestly laughable. No wonder there’s no pictures of the gym just a spot that says fitness center which is misleading to call that closet size room with just a few dumbbells a fitness center: I’ve seen better equipment in someone’s grandma’s garage. At that point my girlfriend and I decided to just take the loss and relax in the room. Except the TV didn’t even work it just turned on. and the remote wouldn’t work so we couldn't even navigate to a certain channel we tried for an hour. The Tv is also tiny. Probably a 30-40 inch tv like 20 feet from the bed. So we figured fine, we’ll just spend the night together and make the most of it… until we realized the walls are basically paper thin. You can hear absolutely everything from the rooms next to you like they’re standing right there with you. Four people in the room next to us were talking loudly most of the night, and it sounded like they were literally inside our room. Let’s just say this is definitely not the kind of place where you feel like you have any privacy at all. The absolute best part of my stay here was when I was unconscious sleeping. And anybody who thinks I’m being a little bit overboard, buddy it says it’s a luxury hotel and nothing about this place is luxury. Between the misleading amenities, everything being closed at that time, the broken TV, and the paper-thin walls, this was one of the most frustrating hotel stays I’ve ever had. I would not recommend this place to anyone looking for a relaxing or enjoyable stay.
