About this place Dorothy

Dorothy is a cocktail bar at 2500 West Chicago Avenue in West Town, with a 70s retro and Art Deco interior. The name is a nod to the old code phrase "friend of Dorothy", and the bar draws a mixed queer crowd, with a strong showing of women and nonbinary regulars. It is a sit-down cocktail lounge rather than a dance club. It is a long way from Boystown and Andersonville, so treat it as a West Side stop in its own right. We have not confirmed the hours or the weekly programme, so check the bar's social media before you go.

Folks were enjoying themselves with conversation. We were pleasantly surprised to find room at the bar almost immediately on a Friday, which was a relief. The drinks were well-made, and the atmosphere was just right for catching up.

Visited on Goth night while traveling. Their calendar of events makes me want to move there! They really have a community-minded approach (which the world needs more of!!). I arrived early and they were at capacity within a few hours.

It's a modern lesbian bar. Bartender we had was great. This bar isn't a straight liquors and draft beers kind of place though they do have some of those. Every cocktail is a bit involved so it's a slower wait when it's busy and depending on your bartender. Otherwise, it's a funnish place.

I had a wonderful experience visiting this bar. The atmosphere was cozy, stylish, and welcoming, with a unique vibe that made it feel like a special place to spend an evening. The decor, seating, and overall design created a comfortable environment where you can relax, have a conversation, or enjoy the energy of the crowd. The drinks were creative and delicious, and the bartenders were friendly, attentive, and made everyone feel welcome. I really appreciated how inclusive and comfortable the space felt. The music, events, and positive atmosphere made the experience even better. This is a great spot for anyone looking for a fun night out, good drinks, and a place that feels warm, safe, and full of community. I would definitely come back again.

Loved this cozy vibey queer bar!! Extremely cozy set up with huge plushy couches and nice lighting. The night I was there it felt pretty racially diverse and trans-inclusive. Fun, interesting (if not expensive) cocktails including some nice smoky / mezcal ones.
