Elixir Lounge, on North Halsted Street, is a good-looking cocktail bar that feels like a quiet corner in a neighborhood not known for them.
Most of North Halsted’s gay bars are high-energy, thumping places. Elixir is not. It's a calmer spot, with bartenders who seem to care about what goes into your glass. Think thoughtful drinks, not sticky floors.
This part of Chicago, the Halsted Corridor, has plenty of LGBTQ+ nightlife, from dance clubs to dive bars. Elixir slides in as a place for a drink and conversation, somewhere you can actually hear your friends speak. It’s ideal if you’re kicking off a night, meeting up, or just want a quieter evening out without the usual Halsted intensity.

Low key cocktail bar. Their Cucumber Mint Smash is deliciously refreshing, just what you need on a hot summer day!
Good ambiance and a nice place to chat. I’ve been twice and had a cosmo and a hickory smoked marg. Both times I was disappointed in the quality. Staff is friendly, though, and I liked being served free pretzels.
A great cocktail bar in the Boystown neighborhood! We frequented this spot a few times during our trip. Friendly service from the slender tall guy with glasses (he was moving around, cleaning and opening doors so we didn’t get his name). The bartenders were eh (some nights they were attentive and friendly, other times, not so much). It’s a small and intimate space, great for a cozy casual hangout with friends.
Really enjoyed the atmosphere. Very chill vibe. Our steaks were very good. Will be coming back to see how they expand their menu.
First time in last night and everything was wonderful. Shout out to the bartender (didn't catch his name but had glasses on) who mistakenly - I think I just didn't speak loud enough - made me an alcoholic espresso martini when I ordered the NA Lesspresso Martini version. I work in service and know sometimes it's a wrench in the night to have a measley misunderstanding but he immediately replaced it and even made sure if I had a drink of it if I was going to be okay. As a sober person, having being asked that in general really made me feel appreciated! The decor and ambiance is a good time, a nice little cozy sit down bar is hard to come by where I'm from! I watched every worker work as a team, ensuring that even at the point of the night where it was standing room only that everyone was taken care of, which again is hard to come by for a bar where I'm from.
Great cocktails in a cozy, slightly upscale setting. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere works well for a night out with friends. Be aware that there is little to no food — just bar snacks like nuts and pretzels — so plan accordingly if you want a full meal.
