About This Event
Northalsted Market Days is Chicago's big summer street festival in Northalsted, the gay district formerly known as Boystown. It was first held in August 1982 as a small neighbourhood showcase and now fills the half-mile of Halsted Street between Belmont and Addison. It is organized by the Northalsted Business Alliance, founded in 1980, which also runs Chicago Pride Fest in June. It is not a parade; Chicago's Pride Parade is the last Sunday of June. Market Days is a fenced street fair with music stages, bars spilling outdoors and a crowd that is gay-majority for once.
In 2026 there were four stages and more than 300 LGBTQ+ vendors. Entry is by a $20 suggested donation each day, which goes to performers, staff and community programmes. Gold VIP passes cost $65 for air-conditioned restrooms, a private bar and in-and-out access, and Platinum VIP passes cost $120 and add six drinks. Since 2021 the festival has opened on Friday night, from 5pm to 10pm, then from 11am to 10pm on Saturday and Sunday.
Take the CTA Red Line to Addison or Belmont rather than driving. Note that Addison is also the Wrigley Field stop, so a Cubs home game makes the trains much busier. Saturday afternoon is the peak, with slow lines at the gates. Early August in Chicago is hot and humid, with thunderstorms, so carry water and something for rain.
The last edition ran from 7 to 9 August 2026, with Keri Hilson, Daya, JORDY, Dawn Richard, comedian Jessica Kirson and Drag Race winner Myki Meeks headlining. There is no official attendance count, and published estimates range from 100,000 to hundreds of thousands. The 2027 dates hadn't been announced when we checked; it usually falls on the first or second weekend of August.
