About this place The Flower Flat Café

The Flower Flat Café, on West Addison Street in Chicago's Lakeview, is one of those places that's exactly what it says it is: a café that’s also a flower shop, with homey breakfast and lunch dishes.

Chicago is generally a friendly city for LGBTQ+ travelers, and Lakeview, in particular, is known for its open community. This place fits right in. You’ll find things like eggs, pancakes, and sandwiches — standard diner fare, but done well, and in a room that smells like a garden.

It’s a good spot for a quiet breakfast before you hit the museums, or a relaxed lunch if you’re staying in the neighborhood. They’ve managed to make a place that feels genuinely local, not like some chain trying to fake it.

Check theflowerflat.com for hours and the full menu. If you like supporting local businesses, and you want a comfortable meal in a setting that’s a little different, this is a solid choice.

Today Bruce helped me pull together a great arrangement for a 78 year old friend who is retiring on Monday after a long career as a civil engineer in Chicago. I wanted something special. We landed on a purple vase with purple and white flowers qnd greenery. She loved it. And I am very happy to support my local florist!!

Love this flower shop! Owner is very kind and helpful, and made me the perfect bouquet within my budget and wants. I only wish they were wrapped in paper instead of plastic.

Amazing local shop! Bruce took his time to hand put together a beautiful bouquet for me for my anniversary. He even made one that was safe for our cat. Super appreciate his help and expertise.
