About this place Early to Bed

Early to Bed, a woman-owned sex shop on Chicago's North Side, welcomes all.

The selection here is thoughtful, with staff who actually know the products. You want advice? They have it, whether you’re just starting out or adding to a collection. The team works hard to make this a comfortable, judgment-free place where questions are encouraged, not met with a glare.

Chicago has plenty of specialty shops for the LGBTQ+ community, but this one stands out. It’s got a feminist bent and a real commitment to friendly, accessible service. They run regular sales and specials, so trying something new won’t break the bank. Everyone’s welcome, no matter their gender or orientation.

You'll find it at 5232 North Sheridan Road. Check their website for what’s currently in stock. If you’re looking for good products, real recommendations, or just a place run by people who get it, this is where you go.

Adore this place <3 I've bought stuff here several times and the employees are super chill and helpful, and the shop is very welcoming and cozy, not intimidating at all. They have a really wide variety of products and display items which I find super helpful.

When I think about the ways I'm extremely spoiled living in Chicago, being local to EtB is one of them. Hands down the best shop in town and, dare I say?? one of the best, period. Welcoming and helpful!

I walked into the store yesterday about a few minutes to close (didn’t know) and was welcomed by the employees. Literally a few minutes later an employee walked over and told me they were closed. I knew what I wanted (a product I saw online) and just had some questions but didn’t see the product on display. I told them I was looking for something I saw online and the employee explained there were many types by that brand. I asked if they closed on the dot and the employee just repeated “yeah we’re closed” and said I could come back. I would have pulled up the product on my phone but felt unwelcome so I just said ok and left. They did the same to another customer in the store. The delivery of the words and tone were polite but overall interaction was unwelcoming. I’ve worked retail many years. The stores where I’ve worked would lock the door at close but give customers already in the store a bit of a grace period, 10 mins or so. I do understand wanting to go home. I wanted to feel the texture but will probably just order the product online and hope I like it since I don’t care to make the trek back over. However, my question is - is this store policy? If so, this is good for customers to know. I’m throwing in an extra star because I truly like this store and usually have a positive experience. I’m hoping this is just a one-off scenario.

I love that they have a mask-required day! I am disabled from long covid and it means the world to me to see businesses still incorporating safety measures.
