Hotel Royal

There is a parking lot designated for the hotel, which I assumed would be part of the package, but I found out at the desk that it's $25. OK, fine. Very nice room and overnight stay was good. Next morning, I asked about coffee and they said there is coffee in the lobby. An hour later I go there to the lobby and a guy is painting and says there is no coffee right now, check back in 40 min. Well by then it's check-out time (11 am). No coffee, ok, fine. I decide to stay an additional night. The guy working the front desk offered 10% off. I said thank you, that would be great, and I asked him much the total would be, everything included. He said $102. I asked if he could put it on two different cards, my debit and my credit card -- and he didn't know how to do that. OK, I thought, fine. I transfer money and present to him the card to put the $102 on. He said actually the total amount will be $120- something. I said, then why did you say the grand total is $102? He said he doesn't know what the full total will be until he puts it in the system/rings it all in (something to that effect) and that there was an "occupant fee" added. I was done at that point lol. It was a nice enough stay for one night but I won't be going back.

Had a fantastic stay here prior to a cruise out of Long Beach. The hotel is situated close to both the cruise terminal and local restaurants. The Royal Loft is spacious and easily housed 5. The hotel also provided us with ample water and coffee, and the shared common space downstairs was also appreciated. The team is also very accommodating, kind and responsive. We will certainly consider staying here again if in the area.

Beware rooms do not look like the photos at all. In the photos the bathroom is all remodeled with glass shower doors and my room did not. It was not. Wry clean in the bathroom. There was stains on the chair cover. The bathroom door and walls have stains on them. Just was nothing like the pictures I looked up. The reviews I read must of been really old or friends. Unless I got the only room that was not remodeled. For almost $200 it was not worth it at all and will not stay again. So just beware. The staff was really nice.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay at Hotel Royal for the most part. We decided to giet it a try because we do like boutique hotels and their individual personalities. Pros: We loved the community kitchen; great place to relax, enjoy our morning coffee and say hi to other guests Thumbs up to the complimentary bottled water and use of technology. Staff was friendly and helpful. Room was sparse but clean. Price was affordable, especially for Long Beach in April. And location is close to restaurants and attractions. Cons: Room was sparse, with only three hangers and no closet. Shower took about five minutes for hot water to arrive, and the pressure was abysmal. Hallway stairs needed a good deep cleaning. Noise at night after the bars closed was incredibly loud, although I can't knock the hotel for that. Would we stay there again on our next visit to LB? Good question. Probably if we were in the main building the next time.

Was great experience, the beach was walking distance and all other places were as well. Will definitely book again.

Wonderful experience at Hotel Royal. Loved the downtown location. Great area for walking around to view all the Art Deco buildings. Safe and clean. Easy pick up and drop off location for the Lyft ride share. I enjoyed the free bottled water provided. The coffee and tea in the room were good. Nice high quality shampoo and conditioner provided. Comfy bed. Very friendly and helpful staff at check in.

The price point compared to other local options was great at $135/night fir a Qn bed. The photos were taken when the hotel was renovated because they make the rooms look beautiful, which their color schemes and decor were cute, but the rooms still felt old due to the walls having dents and corners and edges of walls/floorboards looking dated. A plus is the hardwood floors. The hall carpet was dingy. The front desk staff kept this review from being 3 stars, as they were very kind and responded to my texts quickly.

Charming! Staff especially Jose who always goes above and beyond to assist. Quiet and a great location in the Long Beach Arts neighborhood. I've stayed at the Hotel Royal multiple times over the years and it keeps getting better. Love the downstairs kitchen area for guests! Nice touch!

I had an extremely disappointing experience with Hotel Royal. Without any warning or attempt to contact me, the hotel abruptly cancelled my confirmed reservation, claiming that the credit card on file was “declined.” This explanation makes no sense—I have been using that same card all weekend without a single issue. Instead of calling, texting, or giving me any opportunity to resolve the matter, they simply sent a cancellation email and left it at that. What made the situation even worse was their solution: the only way to keep my stay was to rebook the exact same reservation at a significantly higher price. In other words, they cancelled my booking due to their own payment processing issue and then forced me to pay more for the same room. This is not just poor customer service—it feels like a bait-and-switch. A reputable hotel should make every reasonable effort to contact guests before cancelling reservations, especially when a simple phone call could have resolved the issue in minutes. I strongly caution others before booking here. If a hotel is willing to cancel a confirmed reservation without contacting you and then charge you more to book it again, it shows a complete lack of professionalism and respect for their guests.

Parking is not included in the cost of the room, it is an additional $25 a night. Unless you want to park on the street, but you have to leave by 9am if you don’t want ticketed. If I had know about the parking situation I would’ve booked elsewhere. The room was tiny, walls are thin, it was taken care of, but definitely didn’t look as clean as it could’ve been. Other guests noises jump scared me awake around 4am. Little hairs were in the sheets. The shower floor had a weird brownish color in spots. The water ran nice and hot, the bed was comfy. I had some water drip on the floor and wiped it up with the white towel and it came up dirty. The towels in the bathroom were mismatched, and seemed old. The lady at the desk was very friendly. This hotel is also not friendly for luggage. There is only stairs and they are kind of steep, and no space for luggage in your room. The railing felt/looked dirty, didn’t want to even touch it going up the stairs.

What an excellent little hotel!!! Jose and the lady at the front desk were wonderful, incredibly friendly and accommodating! The place is cute and comfortable, with free waters, bathing equipment, WiFi and streaming services!!! A friendly heads up that parking cost 25$. Overall a great place at the value of a 5* hotel, with the price of a motel!

The area was a little sketchy. There were people peeing and barfing in the street below our room, so we decided not to do much exploring, but the room was great! The bed was comfy. The waiting area downstairs was decorated nicely and there was coffee available. The front desk clerk was friendly. It was exactly what we needed. We'll probably book again on our next trip.
