Freehand Los Angeles

I stayed at Freehand Los Angeles during a conference trip. At check in, I provided my credit card for what I understood to be the standard security deposit. However, a much larger amount was authorized on my card without a clear explanation beforehand. Since my room had already been paid for through my university, this came as a surprise and caused unnecessary stress. Although the issue was eventually resolved after communication between the hotel and my university, the funds remained on hold for about three days. Better communication regarding payment authorizations would have prevented this situation. In addition, the room had a noticeable urine-like odor when I arrived, which made the room feel less clean than expected. Other than these issues, I did not experience any major problems during my stay. The location was convenient, and the rest of my visit was smooth. I hope management can improve transparency regarding payment holds and maintain higher housekeeping standards for future guests.

Dont expect much

Lovely hotel. I really enjoyed my stay. Not bad price wise for dtla. And walking distance to good food and local near by music venues. And walkable to Union station aswell if you don't mind a 20min walk or so. Very clean room and friendly staff.

Paid for deposit and hotel fees but haven’t received deposit yet back of $100+. Hotel was lovely but haven’t been able to email or phone to get the deposit back

Amidst much mental torment, you find clarity among the people and landscape.

I have stayed at Freehand Chicago and Miami and for the first time stayed in LA Freehand the staff were warm and professionally helpful and gave me some nice suggestions of coffee places and places To walk to admire the architecture of Buildings on Broadway. Whole Foods is close by and Metro is 10 Minutes walk to go to Venice Beach and Santa Monica also Union Train station is 10-15 minutes by Bus from Freehand also from Union Train Station there is a Bus for $12 to Airport. Freehand is in a Building with nice Architecture from a different era. Highly recommend this place there is a nice Speakeasy Bar in top floor by Swimming Pool.

I am looking to book shared rooms/hostel beds for two different nights in June and I am so concerned with the fact I cannot find a way to book one anymore/ all of a sudden? Maybe it’s the dates 🤔 I’ve stayed at this location about a dozen times, over the years. Maybe more. I love it so much, cozy and comfy place to sleep and shower when I go to L.A. for concerts and events from San Diego. I hope something is just being re-worked and it remains an option. I love the convenience of it as a solo female traveler, it is why I keep going back.. it’s one of the nicest hostel options in L.A. in my opinion. I’ve checked in with the same two front desk agents in the recent year plus, they are always so professional and pleasant!

Still waiting for my $50 deposit , everything else was perfect

I had a Horrible Experience Rooms are Small - so small there is barely room for your suicase I started in a room on the 8th street side of the building it was super noisy at night and there is a BAR directly across the street that was noisy till it closed and the the drunk people yelled at each other outside for another 30-40 minutes my second night I was able to move to a rooom on the opposite side but there is a parking garage that local kids were playing and being loud till almost 11pm the windows were original to the building and single pane, so they didnt block out any outside noise. the 3rd night there was a DJ on the rooftop bar till midnight that was so loud and bouncing back off surrounding buildings that it kept me awake again. apparently they dont respect the local noise ordinance or customers desire to sleep. I did try to get a drink after work one evening at the rooftop bar - the music was way too loud - my coworker and I couldnt even chit chat without having to almost yell - I had a Makers Mark and coke - it was $15 and had a built in service charge/tip... cost me $19 total for Just one drink and I went up to the bar myself to get it - I can buy a whole bottle of Makers Mark for $22 at a local liquor store... the only saving grace is that the Hotel had great water pressure and the showerhead was a nice rain head so I had an enjoyable shower but the bathroom didnt really have space to put my bathroom things. be prepared to keep them on the little shelf/table out in the main room area my room was so small that I couldnt open the room door unless the bathroom door was completely shut lights have motion sensors on them that turn off after about 10 minutes of not moving and you have to get up and physically turn the switch on again once it shuts off. my room the bed was in a space that didnt leave room for a side table to put your phone or a drink or even an alarm clock the phone was on a foot stool made for sitting on at the foot of the bed the bed itself was literally on the floor so if you have knee problems or back problems its going to be difficult getting in and out of bed my rom did not have a main trash can - there was only a small little trash can in the bathroom that could have helld 3 tissues at most there was a closet in the room that contained an iring board but no iron, and a fold out stand for a suitcase, but nowhere in teh room for it to actually fit.
