via Stay22About this place Uncle Charlie's Midtown
Uncle Charlie's Midtown is New York’s only full-time gay piano bar, a low-key spot in Midtown East.
It’s a classic piano bar, exactly what you’d expect: live music, singalongs, a crowd that’s there to socialize. The place feels intimate, good for a quiet drink or for when you want to belt out a show tune with strangers.
Most gay bars are downtown, so Uncle Charlie’s fills a gap in Midtown, providing a reliable spot for the community. Piano bars have always been a fixture in gay culture, and this one keeps that tradition going, open year-round for anyone looking for that specific vibe.
You’ll find it at 137 East 45th Street. For hours and who’s playing, check their website: www.unclecharliesnyc.com. It’s a solid choice if you’re after live music, a friendly crowd, or just a genuine gay bar experience in the middle of Manhattan.

You can sing, you can dance, you can really just enjoy the moment with a very relaxed drink
Bartender literally made the comment that “I’ve never seen so many straight people in my bar” sorry I thought you were supposed to be accepting to all genders and races?? Will never be coming back to this bigoted establishment again.
The atmosphere was nice. There were regulars...
Welcoming at first step in. Fun and great and comfortable atmosphere.
I hadn’t been here in a minute. Glad to see Uncle Charlie’s Piano Lounge still entertaining the gay and after-work masses! Nice crowd for a Thursday night with @James.Oblak the pianist plucking the ivory and our nerves ☺️
This is a hole-in-the-wall dive bar that I LOVED! The bartender didnt know some shot/drink recipes, but he was really nice. They dont have piano on Sundays, so keep that in mind if its your reason for going. They have a small, but cute outdoor area with a good view of the Empire State Building. Its nothing really special, but the staff and patrons were cool enough to go back on my next trip into the city.
