Oklahoma City has one of the busiest gay bar scenes in the southern Great Plains, and almost all of it is concentrated in the historic NW 39th Street District (the "39th Street Enclave") northwest of downtown. A cluster of dedicated gay bars line the strip, backed by a community that has organized and advocated for LGBTQ+ rights in a conservative state for decades.
NW 39th Street District
- The Boom (2218 NW 39th St) — the flagship gay bar of the strip, known for its drag shows, themed nights and dance floor. One of the main clubbing spots in the city.
- Tramps (2201 NW 39th St) — the oldest gay bar in Oklahoma, an unpretentious Route 66 dive with a loyal following and a patio.
- Angles (2117 NW 39th St) — a long-running gay dance club with DJs and a busy weekend floor.
- OKC Eagle (2200 NW 40th St) — the city's leather and bear bar, occupying the former Copa building just off the strip.
- Apothecary 39 (NW 39th St) — a more intimate, craft-cocktail-focused gay bar for a quieter night out.
- Alibi's (1200 N Pennsylvania Ave) — a welcoming neighborhood bar with a strong lesbian following, reliably busy.
- Frankies OKC (N May Ave) — a lesbian-owned queer bar with dancing and drag, a short drive from the main strip.
Beyond 39th Street

Oklahoma City Pride
OKC hosts two Pride celebrations, both in June. Pride on 39th (organized by OKC Pride, Inc.) is the original event, staged right in the NW 39th Street District with a parade and festival that draw tens of thousands. Oklahoma PrideFest (organized by the OKC Pride Alliance) is the newer downtown celebration at Scissortail Park, launched in 2021.
Community & safety
Statewide advocacy runs through Freedom Oklahoma, and PFLAG Oklahoma City offers support and resources. Oklahoma's legislature has passed several laws targeting LGBTQ+ rights in recent years; the 39th Street District itself is safe and well-established, but outside it use the same discretion you would anywhere in a conservative US state. OKC is car-dependent, so plan on driving or rideshare to reach the strip.
