About this place Palm Springs Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence

The Palm Springs Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence: a local fixture since 2007, these "gay nuns" use humor and faith to support the Coachella Valley's LGBTQ+ community.

The Sisters aren't actual nuns, of course, but a group of queer activists and allies who dress in religious habits, white face paint, and elaborate makeup. They show up at Palm Springs Pride, local fundraisers, and other events, spreading an irreverent brand of joy and acceptance. Their mission: to support LGBTQ+ youth, promote safe sex, and generally make the Coachella Valley a more welcoming place.

Since 2007, the Sisters have given away over $100,000 to local charities. That money has gone to everything from educational scholarships and school supply drives to immigration rights groups and animal shelters. They're a visible, active part of the community, and you'll spot them at events all over the desert.

If you're in Palm Springs and want to connect with the local queer scene, or just see what a faith-based activist group looks like in practice, the Sisters are worth knowing about. Find them online at pssisters.org or reach out via their P.O. Box if you want to get involved.
