Traveler's Rest Hotel

Extremely friendly staff and very clean facilities. I liked that it has everything you need and not all the extras that you do not use at the other hotels have. I highly recommend this hotel for anybody.

I've stayed at Traveler's Rest twice now, as part of a group bicycle tour. I love this place and can't say enough great things! It's an excellent spot for a group because of the selection of rooms and bathrooms but then especially the "great room" to hang out in. The full kitchen is so helpful for meals, and entertainment is close at hand with a record player and piano. Spacious garage for bikes! Everyone in our group felt like this was a luxurious two night stay.

Stayed hear before cycling down the GAP. Nice place and the owners were very hospitable, friendly and helpful. Fabulous support for cyclists. I highly recommend it.

I loved everything about this place! The owners, the coffee, the location, the comfy rooms and especially the great room which was conducive to conversation with fellow travelers. Thank you Paul and Mary Beth 😃

This is an absolute gem! Paul, Mary Beth, and the staff make this old building feel like a destination all of its own. The hostel style beds and rooms are simple but the amenities set this place apart. The woodwork in the Great Room is restored to its original grandeur and the fridge is stocked with drinks and snacks. The laundry and garage are key amenities for a thru traveler like me needing a place to clean up and store gear. The location is minutes from downtown by bus, bike, or even walking. Most amazing are the hosts welcoming vibe and helpfulness. Their love of traveling is always evident and they went the extra mile to make me feel at home!

Rooms, clean,comfortable, well appointed. Staff, super friendly, relational, helpful, welcoming, kind. Area, no issues. I felt safe sitting outdoors by myself for smoke breaks. No problem with parking or navigating. City sounds were to be expected and in no way disturbed our peace. I've not stayed in a common areas 'hotel' where people were actually hanging out and talking. Of the 3 places I've stayed in Pittsburgh this is THE gem. I will return AND recommend to my friends who love to visit the Burgh.

We (party of 2) stayed in the Bunker Room. This is a tiny room with enough space for a bunk-bed, a small table with two chairs that tuck under the table and a floor lamp. The room was neat and clean. The website states that it sleeps 3, although I'm not sure how unless you have someone sleep on the floor or buddy up in one of the twin-sized bunks. The pillow on each bunk had some sort of air bubble in it that made it sort of uncomfortable to use. This room is adjacent to the Great Room, so you will occasionally hear people move around or do things in there like make breakfast. This room also did not have its own bathroom. You have to go to a separate room and walk downstairs to the basement to make use of the facilities there. The Bathroom was clean, but I did notice that the residual shower water would creep under the floor paint they used on the concrete. The locks in the shared bathroom did not seem to work, which was OK since no-one else seemed to use it. I would bring a pair of sandals to take to the shower. The ambiance of the Great Room was welcoming and they had a good selection of healthy foods, drinks, and snacks you could help yourself to. We did not partake in the breakfast portion as we were visiting the city and wanted to try the local restaurants instead. I will note that they had a few paintings of these long-legged men with mustaches hanging around the halls that I found a little strange and creepy, but to each their own. The location of the hotel was great, pretty easy to access a biking path and just a short ride or walk away into the downtown area. I did not have any problems with parking, there seemed to be enough space to park especially after the city's working hours. Going to Carson St after 10pm on the weekends seemed a little sketchy, but otherwise it felt like a safe place to walk around and meet friendly people a majority of the time.

I enjoyed the hotel's 'quirkiness', but the rooms/guests were so noisy I gave up and left at 9pm rather than staying overnight. The hotel provides earplugs and white-noise machines, which should have been a heads-up. Unfortunately, a group had rented at least a couple rooms in this very small hotel, including the one adjacent to me, and the noise -- in the hall, through the wall, through the door -- was tremendous. (They weren't doing anything over-the-top -- just loudly having fun). Knowing there is no hotel staff on site, I was suspicious the noise would continue, and as I was not going to be able to sleep, decided it better to just get back on the road and make use of the hours. Other comments: the neighborhood is also 'quirky', but I never felt un-safe; no staff on-site made check-in a breeze (just grab your key from the check-in board); and my chosen room was small, but serviceable. I would like to recommend Traveler's Rest, but can not.

Exactly what I needed for a quick visit to Pittsburgh! Room and bathroom was clean, located near a bus stop, breakfast was a pleasant surprise (didn’t realize it was included) and above all, the owners and staff were extremely friendly and welcoming! And for an unbeatable value! Highly recommend and hope to come back sometime!

Very reasonably priced, quiet, short distant to all your favorite spots.
