Brown University, Tony's favorite one, is one of the world’s best University, located in Providence, Rhode Island. Providence itself is a university town — clean, peaceful, safe, and dignified. Along with world-class faculty and research opportunities, the strengths of this University is open curriculum. Students design their own academic paths without strict core requirements, encouraging creativity, independence, and interdisciplinary learning. The University values diverse perspectives and promotes inclusivity across campus life and academics. The University is also famous for the strong relationship with RISD, the world-best art school, and global alumni network.

What a lovely campus! This university has many historic buildings with amazing architecture. There are lots of lovely old homes in the area as well. There are plenty of places on nearby Thayer St. to stop in for a bite to eat.

It deserves uns visit to pay tribute to flexibility. It is one of the oldest universities in the United States and is the only one that leaves students free to choose from the first year of study (so-called open curriculum). At all other US Universities during the first year all students are bound to pursue a uniform curriculum, regardless of what they decide to study in the following years.

What a disappointment. The area around the school has been tagged by gangs, and loud packs of motorcyclists roar through at above highway speeds at all hours of the night. Drivers are rude and drive aggressively. No police presence. Could not sleep at night due loud traffic. People are very rude. For example a person was playing the news at a high volume on their phone speakers. The restaurant staff would not do anything about it. Looked like he was a regular who bought very little and stayed for hours. What a dive.

It just feels Ivy League. So beautiful and well organized. Loved sitting on a bench watching all the activity passing by.

As tourists, we so enjoyed waking around the Brown Campus on a nice day. The buildings were beautiful with detailed architecture. The campus is located in the heart of Providence, walking distance to many shops and restaurants. I’m sure it’s a great school to go to.

Of the 9 colleges founded in the former colonies of the US before the Revolution, Brown is the only college in Rhode Island and the only representing the Baptist denomination. Today it and six of the other 8 form the Ivy League of elite colleges in the US. We visited the University on our 2 mile colonial trail in Providence to see it gates, buildings and quadrangles; however, what we really enjoyed were seeing some of its extras like the Carrie Tower and Brown Bear statue. I will say that I liked the campus feel more than Harvard in my brief walk around both campuses. Be sure to see University Hall which was built in 1770. If it looks familiar it was designed by Joseph Brown who also did the Market House on the Providence River and shows similarities. Also see the Van Wickle Gates directly in front of University Hall that open only a couple of ceremonial times a year for students to pass through.

Exactly what we imagined from an Ivy League university: Well ⁇ ined older buildings, spread across campus areas, in a charming older part of Providence. Worth a walk. See especially Antheæum and Stephen Hopkins House - it can be done pretty quickly but are both worth a turn.

It’s well known that Brown is both Ivy League and always ranks in the top of the best schools in the country. The very not important thing I learned about this visit is that Ivy League schools don’t have to have ivy covered walls. Maybe I missed it.
