Hotel Chimayo
Visitors frequently praise the Hotel Chimayo for its central location, comfortable old Santa Fe style, and friendly staff who make them feel welcome. However, several guests report that the hotel is showing its age, with rooms described as run-down, dusty, and in need of cleaning, and some mention issues with rude front desk staff and a lack of responsiveness from management.

Decorations, details and balcoony off the room create a charming, relaxing vibe. Clean room. Perfect location .
Before posting this, I gave the hotel’s management company a full week to respond to my detailed complaint about multiple safety issues. I never received so much as an acknowledgment. Our room had an adjoining door that would not lock, meaning the occupants of the neighboring room could have walked directly into ours. After waiting over two hours and following up multiple times, that was finally fixed—only for us to discover the first-floor bedroom window also wouldn’t lock. This was after we’d already asked security to address aggressive homeless individuals right outside our window. Maintenance even admitted this was a common issue as the windows were “falling from the top.” The A/C also wasn’t working properly. The worst part wasn’t the maintenance issues—it was the complete lack of concern from the front desk. We had to chase down every update and suggest every solution ourselves. After explaining the safety concerns, the front desk employee actually smirked and asked, “And what do you want us to do about it?” We ultimately checked out because we no longer felt safe. By the time we were released from our reservation, the city was nearly sold out, and after searching for another room, we ended up sleeping in our car. To be fair, we did eventually receive a full refund, but only after our travel platform spent several days trying to get the hotel to respond with an approval. I cannot recommend this hotel under any circumstances. We expected a safe place to sleep and instead found multiple security issues that were met with indifference. Between the unsafe room, the dismissive staff, and management’s complete lack of response afterward, I would advise anyone considering this property to stay somewhere else.
This place is amazing! How they created a cozy, quaint place in such a busy area is beyond me. They have underground parking included and the rooms are large. Bottom floors have outdoor seating and upper rooms have balconies. Both are great places to relax in the evening.
This wonderful hotel offers a charming Southwest ambiance that feels authentic and thoughtfully curated, not just commercial. Guests can enjoy stunning nighttime views from the courtyard and cozy rooms, each featuring its own wood-burning fireplace. And yes, they’re happy to bring wood and build a fire for you upon request.
Great hotel with pretty cool esthetics. If you are tired of modern “corporate” like hotels, this one is what you are looking for. Rooms are clean and staff is friendly and nice! Would return again for sure!
Very charming and lovely hotel! We especially loved the fireplace in our room — such a cozy touch. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful throughout our stay, and the location was fantastic and so convenient to the plaza. We truly enjoyed our visit and would absolutely stay here again!
