The Collector Luxury Inn & Gardens

Very disappointed with our stay at The Collector Inn. The hotel markets itself as a luxury boutique property, but our “king suite” felt like a dark basement apartment with very little light and a musty feel. The grounds and fountains also appeared poorly maintained compared to the photos online. Most disappointing was the lack of management response. I left two voicemails for the manager regarding our concerns and never received a callback during our stay. For a property that promotes itself with awards and luxury branding, the customer service fell far short of expectations.

Came here expecting the luxurious boutique hotel experience shown on the website and was truly disappointed. The property looks nothing like the bright, airy, renovated rooms shown in the photos. Our room was dark, dingy, outdated, and felt more like a basement Airbnb than a boutique hotel. The grounds and “gardens” were also rundown and unkempt rather than charming or well-maintained. The entire property felt tired and neglected. Check-in was awkward from the start. There was no warm welcome, no explanation of amenities, and overall the staff seemed indifferent. When we raised concerns about the condition of the room, we were initially told there were no other rooms available. Somehow that later changed, but the alternative room was just as disappointing — dark, accessed by steep rickety stairs, and with a strong unpleasant sulfur/rotten egg smell outside. What’s most frustrating is how misleading the marketing feels compared to the reality of the property. Based on the photos and reviews, we booked this trip for my mom’s birthday expecting a relaxing upscale experience, and instead it became a major disappointment. We even asked if we could leave early and were refused. I would not recommend staying here if you are expecting the experience advertised online

Where to begin? I just left this incredible hotel and I can only say that if you're looking for a romantic weekend getaway, this is the best place. From the moment I arrived, they made me feel so special. The tranquility when the valet escorted us to our room was wonderful, the courtyard is beautiful, the room is very spacious, the bed is incredibly comfortable. I only stayed one night, but it will be my favorite place every time I return. The bathroom is large. We are in love with this hotel.

We just wrapped up a Wednesday to Friday stay at The Collector Inn in St. Augustine for our 4th wedding anniversary, and it delivered exactly what a trip like that should. Calm. Beautiful. Thoughtfully done without trying too hard. The property feels like a hidden village. You walk in and it immediately slows you down. Brick pathways. Lush greenery everywhere. Quiet corners where you can sit with a drink and forget your phone exists for a minute. Not something most places manage anymore. The staff handled everything right. * Friendly without hovering * Quick when you need something * Genuinely welcoming instead of scripted That alone puts them ahead of half the places charging the same rates. The rooms were clean and comfortable, but the real value is outside your door. * Courtyards that feel private * Fire pit areas that actually get used * Pool setup that feels relaxed, not crowded or chaotic You’re right in the heart of St. Augustine, but somehow it still feels tucked away. That balance is hard to pull off. They nailed it. The town itself did the rest. Easy walks, great food, drinks everywhere you turn. Exactly what you want for a short anniversary escape without overplanning every hour. If you want loud, crowded, and “look at me” energy, go somewhere else. If you want a place that feels intentional, quiet, and actually enjoyable, this is it. We came to celebrate 4 years. We left already planning the next trip back.

The grounds are nice and the walkability to town is convenient. The front staff is extremely rude and made the experience unenjoyable.

Overall my husband and I really did enjoy our recent stay. Vallet was friendly at arrival and accommodating. Check in was easy. Breakfast included cereals, fruit, pastries, toast, juices, coffees and teas, two hot items (bacon and/or rotated eggs or French toast). I appreciated the gluten free toast offered being that I have an allergy. The grounds were kept clean and were quaint and relaxing overall, especially the tranquility of the gardens and fire pits. The location was closer than we realized to popular areas such as: the leitner museum, Flagler college, and Avilla St. Age range of guests were mostly around ages 50-65. We did see a few younger over the weekend in late 30s/early 40s. Our main concern was the way sound travels so easily in our room. We understood the rooms were inside beautiful historic homes with original wood flooring, though did not realize just how noisy it could be. Unfortunately the first day we were there neighbors above us woke us in the early morning getting ready to check out followed by the cleaning crew. We heard whenever guests walked up and down the stairs and in their room at any extent. It became bothersome when trying to sleep. Especially on our last night when woken up at 6am then again two hours later by the cleaning crew. We noticed there was a letter given to us/guests at check in that states to be conscious of other guests in regards to noise since the rooms are in old historic homes and lack insulation. A great idea though It may have been helpful to have a clause read to you when signing paperwork stating this not just on a form for you to read later, I’m sure most people didn’t read it. We did appreciate extending us by one hour to have a late check out because the extensive morning noise effecting sleep. It may also be helpful to treat the grounds for gnats. One evening there was a heavy amount by the pool and by the vallet area. I didn’t realize until later they actually bit me all over, not misquito bites but gnats. We would stay here again because overall it is a beautiful property with wonderful service and a serene atmosphere in close proximity to popular areas. We just would stay on an upper level only and bring bug spray.

Rooms are decent and comfortable. Though, a situation occurred that left me receiving the impression that one must look a certain way in order to be taken seriously. Splendid location overall, but ultimately will consider other accommodations in an establishment that is less critical towards their guests.

This hotel was incredible. It is centrally located with easy walking to historic St. Augustine. The accommodations are comfortable and luxurious while maintaining the history of the location and buildings. The staff was wonderful as were the amenities.

The good: The grounds are nice. Think Key-west old town garden. The valet Will was welcoming, friendly, and helpful. The bad: This is not a four star hotel. The rooms are small and old. The breakfast was mediocre at best. Front desk people not particularly helpful or friendly. Would not stay here again.

Parents of the Bride and Groom booked the entire property for my daughter's wedding to host bridal party and family. Oliver was amazing to work with. We couldn't be more thrilled with the New Year's Eve week that we had at the Collector Inn. The rooms were great, the location perfect (walkable to most areas) and the common spaces: outside, fire pit, The Well and breakfast room were the best for connecting with our friends and family. Would highly recommend.

First, this is a beautiful property and we had a beautiful room but I am so disappointed. We requested a ground floor room when reserving the room because my mom is 90 and can't climb stairs easily. They gave us a room on the second level which requires climbing stairs so I went back to the check-in lady and she told me the computer was down. At this point we just went to our dinner reservation and when we returned, the king bed was turned down but my pull out couch was not. I did not know where the pillows and blankets were so l called the desk and explained the problem and reminded her of my request for the ground floor. She said "well you've already used the room" and the pillows are in the closet. I called the hotel manager and left a message but got no return call. So, my elderly mom had to continually and very carefully continue to climb the stairs. I wanted to make hot tea before bed and there was a Nespresso coffee maker but there were no coffee cups in the room. I had to walk all the way down to the lobby again to get a cup. I am really surprised that no one tried to communicate with me about the problem. We were there for her because it was her dream to come to St Augustine to see the lights. The one staff member that stood out was the valet guy on duty on that evening of January 3. He was a man of everything. He was kind and willing and working very hard. Lady at the front desk was not accommodating, kind and should not be working at this type of hotel.
